How We Met
Anthony and I met during our last semester of college in the spring of 2014. We were both pursuing our undergraduate degrees in Psychology at the time. Toward the end of the semester, we both presented our honor’s theses at the same research conference and that was where he struck up our first conversation. He made a super cute joke, and I had butterflies instantly. We spoke a few times more after that, and we promised we would take a picture together at graduation. As cliché as this may sound, I knew after our very first date that I had met the man I would marry.
How They Asked
Every year Anthony and I celebrate his parent’s wedding anniversary by going out to dinner with his family. This year, his mom mentioned that we would be going to the Stone House at Clove Lakes. Neither of us had ever been to dinner there, nor had we ever gone for a walk in the park before. This is surprising because we simply love going for our long walks, so Anthony and I agreed that if it was nice out, we would go for a walk around the park beforehand. It happened to be a beautiful crisp day out, so we left a little earlier and went on our walk. On our mini adventure, I stopped in front of the Stone House and sat down thinking we should wait for his family, Anthony smiled, reached for my hand, and said, “We should at least go over the bridge.” So we did. Little did I know, it would be the most magical moment of my life thus far. He turned to me as we reached the arch, looked at me, took the hood of my jacket down, and said, “Amanda, we aren’t here for my parent’s anniversary today.” At that moment, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
All of me completely froze, I let out a gasp, and the only movement I could manage to produce was a head nod.
I couldn’t take my eyes off of Anthony, until I realized the two guys who were previously filming the lake were actually Anthony’s close friends, there to capture our special day!
Our families were waiting for us inside the Stone House for a lovely dinner celebration. I’ll forever hold this memorable day close to my heart. I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
