Ansley and Nic

How We Met

Nic and I met in high school. He sat behind me in math class and my dad coached him in basketball. Some of our best friends started dating, which is what led us to start hanging out and soon enough we were always together. College proved to be tough and we had a few breaks, but we always came back to each other.

How They Asked

I might start graduate school at LSU, and Nic is a fan who’d never been to a game in Death Valley, so we had a weekend trip planned to tour the campus and go to a game. After hours of sweating on our walking tour in the Louisiana heat and humidity, Nic convinced me to go to a park his “friend” from Louisiana had told him about. Little did I know that friend was a local photographer he’d found, and he wore a flannel despite the heat to hide the ring he carried in his pocket all day.

On the way to the park, he tried to get me to play a game that involved me closing my eyes. When we got to the park and walked under the trees, he asked me to play the game, and I knew this was the moment I thought would never come. Now I get to marry my high school sweetheart under Spanish oak trees a little closer to home.
