How We Met
Four years ago my friend, Amanda, sent me a flyer for personal training fitness classes and asked if I would be willing to try them out with her. I said sure, why not. We go to the class and meet Travis, the personal trainer. I worked out with Travis for about a year and as time passed, we realized we had a lot in common. He had two dogs, Montie and Chloe, and I had one dog, Bandit. We started setting up puppy play dates and soon realized we actually liked each other and set up our own date.
On our first date, Travis took me to a restaurant where each entree was a chef’s choice surprise and we ate things I probably will never eat again. After dinner, we went to a bar and played board games. We laughed and smiled the entire night, I couldn’t believe we were having such an amazing time. After he dropped me home, we called each other and stayed on the phone for hours. 3 years later we merged our two families and adopted a fourth dog, Charlie! In September 2019 we purchased our first home together and gave our dogs their own backyard and our forever home in Massapequa, NY.
How They Asked
Travis called me one day in September 2019 and said he found inexpensive airfare tickets to Portland, OR and was going to book for us to go in November. I said sure, that sounds like a lot of fun. So I started doing research into places we could go to and events we could attend. Leading up to the trip, my family kept asking if I was ready for Portland, if I had bought new clothes and packed and I kept saying not really, it’s just a relaxing weekend getaway, no need to do anything extra. Little did I know, my entire family was in on the big surprise that was to come. The day we left for “Portland”, we drove to my parents’ house so we could drop our car off and have my sister drive us to JFK Airport.
My mom tagged along and the entire time I was freaking out because I thought we were going to be late for our flight. We get to the airport and instead of going to the Jetblue terminal (flight number Travis gave me was indeed for a Jetblue flight to Portland, OR), we drove to the Delta terminal and I automatically knew something was up. My sister said there was construction at the Jetblue terminal and all departure flights were redirected to this terminal. I said okay, whatever, and got out of the car. When we got into the airport, Travis told me to look for the Jetblue kiosk, while he walked to the Emirates gate. He turned on our camera, started recording, and handed me my passport. Right then and there I knew we weren’t going to Portland. I laughed and kept asking where are we going?!?! We walked through the terminal, walked through TSA and no one would tell me where I was going. We get to the Emirates gate and I saw the sign says a flight to Milan!!!
Travis handed me our trip itinerary and I cried like a baby. Our first day in Milan involved shopping and eating. On the second day, Travis organized a “tour” of Como with a “tour guide”. Little did I know, our “tour guide”, Stefanie, turned out to be our surprise engagement shoot photographer! Stefanie set us up for some amazing shots and while I was turned away for a specific photo, I heard Travis rustling behind me and at that moment, I knew it was about to happen and all I could do was smile. I turned around and saw him down on one knee and I laughed and smiled and cried tears of joy for this amazing man as he asked me to marry him.
I would have never thought this amazing man I met 4 years ago as my fitness trainer would one day take me on a surprise weekend trip to Milan and ask me to be his wife! I couldn’t have asked for a more heartfelt, thoughtful proposal from my soul mate <3
