How We Met
Kyle and I met on Tinder! I had just gotten out of a three year relationship and was not looking for anything more than a few laughs with my girlfriends while swiping through pictures. I came across this GORGEOUS, tall, Clark Kent-esq, brunette, US Air Force man who I would have sworn was catfishing me and any other girl who would fall for it. I decided to make the first move (swipe). I messaged him with the best pick-up line I had. “When you eat bread, you must poop toast… because you’re really hot!” His response was the best, “Oh my goodness. That was amazing. We HAVE to meet!” After a few days of talking on the phone, I agreed to meet him for a dinner date.
December 6th, 2014 I headed out with sweaty palms to meet this handsome hunk. I had never been so nervous in my entire life. We barely ate anything, we were talking so much. I felt incredibly comfortable with him right away. After finding out that we loved many of the same things, including the same band for several years (Needtobreathe), he dropped me off at my car and I hoped for a goodnight kiss. He did not kiss me and later explained that he wanted to show me how special I was to him and how important it was for him to be respectful. We were hooked from that moment on! He is truly my dream guy and I was put here to love him for all of my days!
how they asked
Kyle is originally from Wilmington, NC. He knew he wanted to move back home after 7 years in the Air Force traveling around the world and living in New Jersey. He told me he wanted me to move with him so we could start a life together. I told him that I was not going anywhere until I had a ring on my finger! In May 2016, Kyle moved back to NC. I had planned a trip to see him for the first time in 54 days in late July. He thought it would be a great idea if my parents came. That way, they could meet his family and see where I would (eventually) be living. We were going to plan a few fun family activities together. We decided to have the “meet and greet” at a place called Airlie Gardens on July 23rd. It is a huge historic garden with gorgeous trees covered in Spanish moss. It was 103 degrees and everyone was drenched from the humidity. Kyle is one of 5 children. His oldest sister and her husband are wedding photographers and always have their cameras around to take pictures of their kiddos.
I didn’t think anything of them bringing their equipment this time. As we walked around the garden grounds, we came to this beautiful stone pergola with vines wrapped around every inch. I remember Kyle’s brother-in-law said, “Annie, isn’t this a beautiful spot? I have shot quite a few brides here.” I turned around to agree with him, when I saw both my parents and all of Kyle’s family quickly scattering behind bushes. Kyle walked towards me and it was in that moment when I looked at his pocket and noticed the outline of the square ring box.
He got down on one knee and I immediate sobbed “ARE YOU SERIOUS??” His response was, “I love you so much. Please Marry me, Annie.” His sister and her husband were able to capture that beautiful moment through pictures. Fast forward to September 18th, Kyle and I packed up my car and made the drive to Wilmington, NC… aka. our new home. I can’t wait to spend forever with my best friend. Best right-swipe ever!
