How We Met
Erik + Annie We met in an Earth Science class in college. I was an Elementary Ed major, he was studying Criminal Justice. We got together initially so that I could help him study but we ended up falling in love instead. Not much studying was done from thereon out.

3 years later, to celebrate my finishing student teaching, we went for a hike up Old Rag Mountain. It took us about 3 or 4 hours to reach the top. The whole way up Erik was acting strangely, but I just attributed it to the fact that he was exhausted. We were all tired and jello-legged upon summiting. The view was breathtaking. A gorgeous sunny May afternoon in the Blue Ridge Mountains meant that we could see for miles and miles. I sat down to eat a snack, and Erik came to sit down beside me. “Hey Annie?” His voice was shaking, which was immediately alarming. He never acts this way. “Yeah?” For some reason my mind went immediately to we’re breaking up, which is ridiculous because we were (and still are) completely in love. But still, that’s where my mind was. He went on to talk about how insanely hard the hike up the mountain was, and how we had some setbacks and we didn’t climb it like pros, but nevertheless we got to the top. And we got there together. He then mentioned how in our life together we had overcome challenges and obstacles, imperfectly of course, but together. “If we can do all of this together, I think that we can do anything. As long as we’re together. And that’s how I want to live the rest of my life.” He pulled out a beautiful gold diamond ring, and asked if I would marry him. I said yes, of course. 4 months later, we became Mr. and Mrs.
