Our story began in October 2008 in the midst of grieving my father’s unexpected passing. Jerome came to my house to offer condolences. That summer we started working together in a dialysis center. From there our friendship began. Our work days consisted of laughter, jokes, Dunkin Donut runs, and life talks. We quickly grew fond of each other and our friendship grew into something special.
Over the years our relationship was tried and tested. We fought, cried, laughed and cheered. Amidst everything we’ve been through, our love for each other got us through it all! Fast forward to a week before the proposal, Jerome approached my mom in her office and asked for her blessing to propose to me. They exchanged tears, hugs, and kisses. It was a “YES” from my mom!
Come Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017, Jerome calls and tells me he’ll pick me up after work to get the food for dinner at his family’s house. “I’m here,” he texts. I head downstairs and he’s smiling from ear to ear! It’s the holidays, I’d be smiling too. Little did I know he had something up his sleeve. After driving for about ten mins, he says, “Babe, I need to blind fold you.” Oh, snap, my heart was pounding! “Is this what I think it is?” He ties his neck tie around my eyes and tells me to just sit back and enjoy the ride. What felt like half an hour of driving, we finally stopped. He led me out of the car, removed the blind fold, and what I saw before my eyes drew me to tears! Flowers in hand, Jerome brought me to my dad’s grave. He immediately told me “I need to ask for your papa’s blessing too and tell him I want to marry you.” Jerome placed the flowers on my dad’s grave and spoke to him. We cried and hugged. Then, the big question. “Will you marry me?” A waterfall of tears streaming down my face, I happily said “YES!” Thank you to my beloved fiance for the respect and love he showed for me, my mom, and my late dad. You are a great man!
