How We Met
We met via a local non-profit, the Elmwood Village Association (affectionately known as the EVA). Joe was an EVA board member and I joined the group as a member of the planning committee for one of the EVA’s large annual fundraisers. While we were officially introduced at the committee meeting on October 12th, 2016, we didn’t start chatting until the after-party for the event on November 18th. There is some discrepancy in opinion over who made the first move but that night, we exchanged numbers and Joe asked me out on a date.
how they asked
On the evening of September 22, 2017, Joe and I attended the opening night performance of On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan at Shea’s Performing Arts Center. After the show, Joe suggested that we take some photos on the balcony. We went upstairs, Joe handed his phone to a security guard, and asked him to take a picture. After a couple of photos, I started to walk away but Joe told me to wait because he wanted to take one more. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes! Unbeknownst to me, Joe had gone to Shea’s earlier in the day and hidden 3 dozen roses in a nook on the balcony. After I said yes and he put the ring on my finger, he gave me the roses while everyone in the theater clapped for us.
