Anna and Tucker
How We Met
We met on a group friends trip to New York City on Memorial Day Weekend 2013. My brother and I had been taking this sibling trip together for the past couple of years but this year we decided to each bring some friends. Tucker was one of my brothers fraternity brothers at Georgia Tech. I graduated from the University of Georgia so with us being rival schools, it made for some playful banter that day we met. NYC is such a magical city especially to meet your future husband! We ate at amazing restaurants, went site seeing, took a harbor cruise, biked through Central Park, and went to an Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets game all while getting to know each other.
The last day of the trip before our flights home, we went on our first date at the cutest Italian sidewalk cafe in Little Italy. Tucker was living in Washington DC at that time and I was living in Charlotte, NC. We honestly didn’t know how it was going to work being kind distance but we were able to build a great friendship and foundation talking on the phone. We were determined to make our relationship work. We spent the next 3 years traveling and going on adventures together. In August of 2015, Tucker moved to Charlotte when I decided to go back to nursing school. Later that month we our first puppy together, a Corgi named Bailey.
how they asked
Tucker did an excellent job in surprising me with the proposal. My favorite broadway musical is Les Miserables and it was playing in New York City in March 2016. Tucker’s best man and his wife live in Manhattan so I reached out to them and some other friends to see if they wanted to go too. So I’m thinking that we are going to NYC just to see the play and visit friends.
But Tucker had everyone else in on it and the planning. On Saturday March 5th 2016, I was told we were going to walk thru Central Park, find somewhere cute to eat lunch before going to One World Trade Center and then to the play that night. It was actually a nicer day in the 40’s for New York so there was a lot of people walking in the park. When we got to Bow bridge in Central Park, we stopped to look at the view and take some photos. That’s when Tucker got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
It was so nice to have our friends there to capture these special moments for us. By this time a crowd had gathered around, clapping and congratulating us. It was like being in a rom-com!
We then had brunch at the iconic Tavern on the Green followed up with watching Les Miserables on Broadway. It was the perfect day!
