How we met: Daniel and I met our sophomore year of college, although he will argue we meet our much earlier, but I never remembered him! Woopsies! Our roommates started dating each other and at this time I found out he was interested in me. Our friends kept trying to set us up, but I just wasn’t interested. Somehow he got my phone number and started asking me to hang out, I always had an excuse of some kind. One day he called and asked me to one of his fraternities socials, it completely caught me off guard (he had been texting me up until this point) so I said I would go with him. The next day I informed him that I wasn’t feeling well and I just wanted to say home. He tried to come over to bring me chicken soup, but my roommate knew I was really just avoiding him and I was hanging out with one of my friends instead. But all of the rejection didn’t affect him and one night I finally gave into watching a movie with him and our roommates and we have been together since! As soon as I gave him time I fell in love, he is such an amazing person and I feel terrible for being so horrible in the beginning ! We’ve been together for three and a half years now and we are so excited for our wedding!

Surprise Marriage Proposal: The day started like any other morning at my house. Abigail (my lab) woke me up earlier than I would have liked and I started to get ready for the day. It was Thanksgiving and I was pretty disappointed that Daniel couldn’t make it this year. He wasn’t able to make it the year before and he recently had to miss my senior exhibition for work, so needless to say I was throwing a little pity party for myself. He was 5 hours away in Monroe and all I wanted was to see him (or at least I thought he was in Monroe) He has a way about him that I just love, when he is around everything is fun. so fun. He just makes me smile and everything about life is just better.

I had plans to meet with Molly from Red Fly Studios to snap a few photos, chat and grab a cup of coffee. For some reason the nerves in my stomach were going and I was anxious. Did I pick a good outfit? Did my eyes look tired? I started to regret my decision to put eyeliner on my bottom lid as I stared at myself in the mirror. Get it together I thought, this is no biggie. While I love photographing others, I am not super comfortable in front of the lens. I’m slowly getting better, but I am not all the way there yet.

Molly and I had decided to meet up at a local restaurant and she would follow me from there to a field full of pecan trees. We parked our cars and said our hellos. This was my first time meeting Molly in person and I was super excited. I really admire Red Fly Studios and all that they do so in my head this was kinda a big deal. She apologized for texting while we were chatting, but her mother-in-law was making sure that she had remembered to pick up bacon for their Thanksgiving brunch. Little did I know she was actually texting Daniel. She had his number saved in her phone as “mom” just in case. She is a clever one. We walked out into the pecan field and began shooting, Molly was so sweet and let me play with her tilt-shift lens. I have never used one before so I was totally entrenched trying to figure it out. She asked me to face her so that she could test the light, I did and when I went to move she quickly instructed me to look at the playground off in the distance.

A dog ran up beside me and when I looked down I was sure it was Bella, but my mind couldn’t make sense of what was going on. How did Bella get to Valdosta? Why was she in this field? Was my brother watching her and I didn’t know about it? These thoughts raced through my mind in approximately 1/60th of a second.

I turned around and there was Daniel, walking toward me in a new outfit. It all made sense, he was about to propose. It was all happening so fast that my mind could barely understand what was going on. I hugged him in my excitement; he grabbed my waist and then went down on one knee. I could feel my heart beating. It was so fast and blood quickly rushed to my face. There he was asking me to marry him. I have looked forward to this day for so long.

Daniel is it for me, we’ve known from the beginning. I can remember when we first started dating Daniel would always talk “future” with me. I thought it was odd he assumed he would marry me when we had only been dating for a month, but I am glad that he did. I can’t remember his exact words, his voice was shaky. I know that he said my name (I always feel special when people say my name) and he talked about how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I couldn’t get any words to come out so I just bent over and hugged him, he stood up, kissed me on the forehead then I finally got the word “yes” out of my mouth, in those short moments my entire life changed. I wanted to remember every second. I am so thankful that Molly was there to capture the entire thing; she did such an amazing job. The photos mean more to me than I ever could have imagined.

Daniel had asked my Dad a few weeks leading up to the day and my entire family was in on it. They all knew that Daniel was going to ask me on Thanksgiving, so they woke up extra early and drove to Valdosta so they could all be there right after it happened. I am so blessed.
