Anisha and Steven

How We Met

Steven and I met at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota when we were 19 years old. We spent the first year of our relationship long-distance, as we were both studying abroad in different semesters, though I got to visit him in Copenhagen while he was there. Since then, I have been in medical school in Virginia and Steven moved to be with me during this time.

How They Asked

We had planned an impromptu day trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to celebrate our 7-year anniversary of dating. I have been obsessed with Harry Potter ever since the first book came out and it’s been such an important part of my life. This was my first time at the park and I was so excited! We only had one day there and wanted to see everything. Once the gates opened, we rushed to try to get in line for the new ride. Steven, however, grabbed my hand and said we should look at the castle before the place got too packed. Little did I know, as we hurried through Hogsmeade, there was an even better surprise waiting on the bridge overlooking Hogwarts!

We got to the bridge and Steven asked a man there to take a photo of us. When we got in place for the picture, I realized he had a real camera in his hand – then I turned and saw Steven on his knee! He asked me to marry him then and I couldn’t contain all the emotions on my face. The ring box had the Deathly Hallows symbol on the front and the word “Always” on the side – referencing the love that Snape had his whole life for Lilly Potter.

After I said yes, our photographer – Albert – took us around the village to take pictures. It felt like we were the only people there as Albert found us private nooks near Honeydukes, Dervish, and Banges, and even in front of the Hogs Head!

We had come to celebrate 7 wonderful years of dating. For the HP fans, 7 is the most powerfully magical number and it truly was a magical day!
