How We Met
Andre and I have been dating for 8 blissful years. We met in the summer of 2008 when we were just 14 and 15 years old at our middle school’s summer camp where we worked as counselors. I remember always having the biggest crush on him during middle school as he was a year older and did not know I existed. This crush grew even stronger when we locked eyes for the first time as counselors. I could only describe the feeling I had as magic. I am a strong believer of destiny and I truly believe our story was written in the stars. The day we met, the summer camp had a field trip planned to a baseball game. Two buses were available to take the entire camp to the game. For some reason that day, the camp administrators decided to place me in a completely different group. This completely different group was scheduled to ride in the same bus as Andre’s group when my original assigned group was on the other bus. It was on that bus where we sat diagonal from each other and finally exchanged phone numbers.
I was on cloud nine because this boy who I had had a crush on forever was now asking for my number. It was just two weeks after that he decided to kiss me in one of the classrooms at the school. On July 19th, 2008, we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend. We’ve been through high school, college, dental school and graduate school together. We shared our most memorable moments right by each other’s sides. As every anniversary passes, I always think there’s no way I can fall more in love with this man and yet I do.
Every girl in the world should experience this type of love. Andre is a man that puts me first before anyone. Who constantly shows me how special I am to him by his words and actions. I could not have found a better man. I am the luckiest girl in the world and I sometimes wonder what I did to deserve this love. He is my angel. It was pure magic that summer and has been for the past 8 years.
how they asked
I woke up on September 10th, 2016 thinking it was going to be a typical Saturday. I was woken up by Andre’s FaceTime call that morning with the words “I love you extra today.” I didn’t think anything of it because we tend to tell each other that from time to time. Somehow during the day the topic of our first kiss was brought up and we both discussed that we did not remember the number of the classroom where we kissed. It was either room 2a or 2b. Our plan for that day as far as I knew it was to attend 6 o’clock mass and then go out to dinner at a fancy restaurant with my cousin and his wife. However, Andre had something very different in mind. During the day he told me that he had a football game scheduled the his friends at 4pm and would try his hardest to make mass. I again didn’t think anything of it since getting together with his friends to play football is something he does regularly. I went on with my day.
I attended 6 o’clock mass with my parents and at 6:40pm I texted him wondering where he was due to mass being over. He said “I’m almost there.” My parents and I decided to wait for him to arrive by their car. When I arrived to the car there was a note taped to it which read “2a or 2b?
…. Follow the rose pedals” I then turning around to my mom and said the words “Oh my God”. Tears instantly began to run down my face as I followed the pedals into the school where we had spent our lives growing up. As I followed the path, Michael Buble’s song “Everything” was blasting in the halls of the school. As I kept walking I noticed along a wall were 10 blown up posters of our favorite pictures together with our favorite disney quotes underneath.
It was an overwhelming feeling of love, happiness, and excitement. Finally, the rose pedals led to the classroom, 2a, where we shared our first kiss. It was in the same exact spot where he asked me to do him the greatest honor of becoming his wife.
Thankfully, my aunt was able to capture the moment perfectly.
He had also arranged both our families to hide in the school library and surprise me when I walked out of the classroom.
Everything was so wonderfully planned out.
Once hugs and kisses were given to everyone who was there, the celebration continued back at my house where my family had organized an engagement party. It was the most incredible day of my entire life and is something I will never forget.
The thought of spending the rest of my life with Andre gives me the most amazing feeling inside.
Since that night we have received so many wonderful congratulations from friends and family. We are overwhelmed with joy and love. We’ve been waiting for this moment since we were 14 and 15 years old and I cannot believe it is here.
We are ready to begin our lives together as husband and wife.
