How We Met
Evan and I met in choir at our community college. We both love to sing and have been singing our entire lives. We were standing in line waiting to go on stage for a performance and I overheard someone behind me make a slightly inappropriate comment about something. I turned around and saw Evan and laughed at his comment. I could tell he was kind of embarrassed that I overheard him but he was trying to play it cool. Over the next few days we began talking during our choir rehearsals. The night he added me on Facebook and “liked” one of my photos, I was in the car with my two best friends. I remember being in the backseat and telling them “Oh my gosh Evan just added me on Facebook and liked one of my photos from like a year ago! I think he likes me!”
A few days later I invited him last minute to go to karaoke night at the Applebee’s near our community college.
A lot of people from choir went every week so I tried to keep the invite casual. He seemed casual about coming, but later in our relationship confessed that he was actually at a rehearsal for another choir he was in about an hour away and left early in order to see me. That night we shared our first kiss and a few days later I invited him to come to a choir concert for a different choir I was in (did I mention we like to sing?) and after the performance he asked me to be his girlfriend. That was the night of October 25th, 2011 and we’ve been together ever since!
how they asked
Evan and I are currently participating in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World. I had a feeling that he would propose at some point during our program but wasn’t sure when. About a week before the proposal I went to Disney’s Boardwalk with some friends and we took some really cute pictures. They turned out so well that we said we should get dressed up and go back to take some more at some point. My best friend, Mary, (who is also in the Disney College Program) told me that we were going to go back to the Boardwalk to take pictures Monday night (October 10th) and then head over to Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival afterwards. Our other friend, Kristen, came with us and brought her professional camera to take pictures.
We started to walk around the Boardwalk and ended up going onto the dock with the lighthouse on it. Kristen was taking photos of me when I turned around and saw Evan standing there. At first I was really confused because I thought we had accidentally bumped into each other but then I noticed he was wearing a button-down shirt and looked slightly nervous. At that moment I had a hunch which was quickly turned to definite knowledge when I saw the smiles on my Mary and Kristen’s faces. Evan and I walked down the dock until we got to a sandy, secluded area where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
It was absolutely perfect!
