How We Met
Jered and I met in high school at a fencing tournament where he was actually my referee for literally all of my bouts. I was 15 and he was 17 at the time, and afterwards we became best friends. We had a huge fight my senior year in high school and stopped talking to each other for a while. My sophomore year in college, right around Christmas time, I sent him a text saying “Hey, how’s it going?” hoping if nothing else, I’d get my best friend back. We kept texting every day, staying up until 3 or 4 in the morning. A few days after New Year’s we decided to give dating a try. I hadn’t seen him in 3 years at this point aside from Facebook.
how they asked
Later on in 2016, he told me he had a ring (that’s it, no details, no nothing) and a surprise for me in Palo Duro (I thought he carved our names on a tree or something) and we decided I would come to see him for Thanksgiving. His sister is a really good photographer and we decided to take pictures in Palo Duro Canyon since all the pictures we had of us together at that point were old tournament pictures and selfies. His family went with us, as we were going to barbeque there once we were done. Jered’s sister took a few more pictures and then he said that he wanted to go explore down this trail with me. Walking down the trail, we came upon this gnarled old tree that looked really cool and faced a clearing on the other side. Jered told me that my surprise was on the tree and I started looking very carefully for our names, initials, something on the tree. I was starting to get frustrated because I couldn’t see it so I turned around to say “Hey! I can’t see it!” and he was behind me on one knee with the ring box he made and the ring inside and asked me to marry him! I was literally so shocked and said “Really?” several times before I said yes! I loved the ring and the ring box!!!
