Andrea and Jason

How We Met

Jason and I had been talking for about two months since connecting with him online and every conversation ended the same way “Andrea I would like to take you out on a date.” After some convincing, I decided to accept a date and put aside any fears that he might be a serial killer. July 8, 2010 marked the beginning of this love story. We had planned to watch a movie, Grown Ups, at the 33rd Street AMC theater in NYC and maybe have dinner afterwards. The search for the theater seemed to be an impossible task as we kept walking into the wrong ones since all we seemed to be focused on was talking. When we finally found our theater I remember telling myself, “I’m going to enjoy this movie and laugh even if my hyena laugh scares him.” I caught him glancing at me and smiling throughout the duration of the movie, which made all the butterflies in my stomach flutter and made me realize that I could be myself around him. As we left the theater, Jason realized that the Empire State Building was close by and asked me if I had ever been there at night. I told him I had never been there period! He decided that this would be a must for our date!

As we slowly proceeded towards the top and encountered interesting people such as Mr. Is it “in” line or “on” line and Mr. California lover, Jason put his directional skills to the test. He was trying so hard to indicate where locations were but kept confusing them until he noticed the signs, which was cute. We managed to find a area to see the beautiful view. As I was pointing toward our lovely Lady Liberty, Jason brought up how his one friend likes to wear bracelets because of their meaning. At this point, Jason was playing with my bracelets and decided to reach for my hand and hold it. He managed to spin me around and surprised me with our first kiss. The ending of our date was approaching and like a true gentleman he offered to take me home. However, we got into a debate over Edgewater, NJ having a 24 hour Starbucks. I refused to believe it! Jason set out on a mission to prove it, which he did and we spent several hours there. Once we called it a night or morning, Jason asked for a second date and the rest is history!

how they asked

New York City has always had a big sentimental value to Jason and I. Therefore, it made sense that Jason decided that it would be the perfect location and unleashed his romantic side to see the beauty of Central Park. He planned an all day event, from breakfast until dinner we explored this memorable city! The day started as soon as we took a cab over to Tavern on the Green for breakfast. So yummy! I could tell he was extremely excited. We proceeded on foot towards Strawberry Fields, Cherry Hill Fountain, Rustic Overlook, Ladies Pavilion, Hernshead, Balcony Bridge, Swedish Cottage, Shakespeare Garden, Romeo & Juliet Sculpture, Delacorte Theater, Belvedere Castle, Vista Rock, and Turtle Pond.

At this point you could imagine we wanted to rest, thus we decided to rent a rowboat and explore the Lake. We saw the romantic Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace and the Bethesda Fountain.

As our rowboat time-limit approached our tummies were also craving food, which Jason had already planned for by reserving lunch for two at the Loeb Boathouse restaurant. Once our tummies were beyond satisfied we continued our walking tour of Central Park and proceeded towards the Bethesda Terrance and stopped at the Bethesda Fountain.

Here Jason whispered into my ear as he hugged me how much he loved me and wanted me to be the mother of his future children. He proceeded to get down on one knee and say those four magical words that every girl dreams about, “Will you marry me?” I said yes and he gave me this beautiful ring, which he had my uncle create.

We continued walking and saw the Alice in Wonderland Sculpture, Central Park Carousel, and Victorian Gardens Amusement Park. We walked around the Pond and made our way outside the park and proceeded to a mysterious destination. As we reached 33rd street, it occurred to me that we were going to the Empire State Building. We walked around and reminisced about our first date. We ended our evening by having dinner downstairs at the STATE Grill and Bar. It was an unforgettable day with my best friend and soulmate! #JCALWedding2018
