How We Met

During my freshman year of high school, I decided to be a manager for the football team! Meanwhile, David had been recently sidelined for a minor concussion. This resulted in tons of time when we sat and talked during practice and got to know each other. We always joke that it was a head injury that brought us together haha. Shortly after that, he asked me to be his girlfriend. In the ten years since then, we have been inseparable and now, we own a house and live together with our two dogs in Arizona! At 14, I never expected that my first boyfriend would end up being the one!

I have an Instagram Reel with lots of photos throughout the years + a proposal snippet. Let me know if you’d like a copy of it!

How They Asked

All I told him is that I wanted to get engaged on a trip and that I’d love to be surprised. But, because of our busy schedules, it didn’t look like we were going to be able to take a big trip together for a year or two. While I was planning on taking a big trip for the two of us anytime soon, I did have plans to travel with my best friend Sarah. Sarah and I love to travel together and our latest adventure was going to be traveling to Scotland to visit her sister, Emma, who is going to school there. We made plans to be in Scotland for a week and I was getting so excited to explore the beautiful city of Edinburgh!

After hours of travel delays, we made it to Edinburgh and the three of us spent the first day exploring the city! On the morning of the second day, Emma said that she found this beautiful garden near Edinburgh castle that was just “picture perfect” and she thought it would be such a fun place to walk through after breakfast. We all agreed that that sounded great and we went for a walk down to the most beautiful gardens with a stunning view of Edinburgh castle. We then went up to this big fountain, called the Ross Fountain, and Sarah started to ask me lots of questions about it (I know a lot about art history). She kept asking question after question, which was a little odd but I didn’t think much of it.

Then, she and Emma sort of start to back away and I get a tap on the shoulder. My first thought is that I dropped something and someone was letting me know so I flipped around to see David there, down on one knee asking me to marry him. I was in absolute shock! I immediately pulled him into a hug before my brain could process anything and then I remembered to say yes! I have never been more surprised in my life and I was shaking with excitement.

David has always known how important travel is to me and even though I didn’t think it was possible for me to actually have a surprise proposal on a trip with our busy schedules, he somehow managed to pull off the most perfect moment. Little did I know, Sarah and David had been planning this moment for months, and the two of them had put thought into every little part of it to make the location, timing, and moment perfect. I’m so thankful to be surrounded by so many people that helped pull this together and I still can’t believe that even though it seems like everyone knew, I didn’t have a clue.

After ten years together, I’m so excited to start this next chapter of our lives, and now Edinburgh, Scotland will always have a special place in my heart.
