Andrea and CJ
How We Met
In the age of internet friendships and relationships, it’s no surprise that we met online. In a fun twist of fate, we were introduced by a former acquaintance in 2012 after interacting with one another on Twitter. Both being in relationships at that time, we kept in touch via twitter, Instagram and the occasional text.
In early 2018, he’d gotten in touch with me to see how life was treating me. Finally, both of us were single, the connection was instant. After 6 weeks of constant communication, I found myself on a flight from Vancouver, BC, to Boston, MA. That was the beginning of a long-distance relationship and a lot of airline miles!
How They Asked
We have a tradition of doing date night with each other whenever we’re visiting. I’d flown down to Denver for Christmas, and he’d said he had something arranged for us for our Friday night date night. CJ is a member of Churchill’s Cigar Bar at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. He knows the concierge, Sharon, quite well.
He mentioned she’d offered to give us a tour before we went to Churchill’s that evening. We went for manicures that afternoon first, which isn’t anything unusual for us. My shoulder was really bugging me that evening, so I’d asked if we could just stay home and go out Saturday night. He said that Sharon had already planned everything for us, so we should go. I agreed and got ready.
The tour was beautiful and our last stop on the tour was Ellyngton’s dining room. We got to a secluded corner where there was champagne on ice, chocolate-covered strawberries, and roses. He turned to me, got down on one knee and said “We’ve been through a lot in almost two years. And now I want to know, will you marry me?” And brought out the ring I had tried on months prior.
We spent the next 30 minutes calling all of our best friends and family. Turns out, everybody was expecting that call! To top off the magnificent tour, we got a round of applause from the entire cigar lounge and got to pop another bottle of champagne. We are so excited to work on closing the long distance and for the rest of our lives together!
