Andrea and Alberto's New York Marriage Proposal

New York Marriage ProposalBeto and I met back in August of 2006 in school. I was 15 years old and about to start my sophomore year, and Beto, 2 years older, was entering his last school year before graduating and starting college. At the beginning Beto and I were only friends; I even had another boyfriend and Beto was dating someone else too. On January 2007, our school organized a Cultural Trip to Guanajuato, a colonial mexican city, and Beto and I went with all of our friends. We hung out on the trip often and had an amazing time, but nothing happened between us.

On February 14th, Valentine’s Day, Beto sent me a bouquet of tulips, and even my friends remember how much I blushed when I received them and how excited I was. By the end of that week, Beto asked me on a date. From that day on, we kept hanging out and going to the movies, parties, events with both of our families, etc.

During every date we had, we would talk for hours. I immediately fell in love with his amazing personality: he is fun, outgoing, kind, and smart!

In Mexico, it is common that after a few weeks of dating someone, the boy usually asks the girl if she wants to be his girlfriend, so Beto popped that question on March 24th and I became his girlfriend. Now, we have been together for 7 years, and the more I get to know him, the more I realize how amazing he is and how lucky I am to be with him. During our 7-year relationship, we have experienced different situations, and like everything in life, there have been ups and downs. However, we have been able to manage work, friends, a one year of a long distance relationship (I went to live in Paris twice), family, and every bump in the road.

how they asked: At the beginning of February, during a family gathering, Beto’s family told me that they were organizing a trip to NYC in March and that they wanted to invite me. I was very excited to go because NYC is one of my favorite cities in the world and because we were going to have an amazing time. Beto, his parents, his sister, some friends and I were all going to NYC. At that moment, I did not suspect anything and I though this was going to be just a family trip.

On March 13th, we took our flight to NYC and we arrived during the afternoon. As it had been the coldest Winter ever, the city still felt very cold and there was still snow in Central Park and in some streets, making the environment pretty romantic. That night we all went to have dinner and some drinks at a nice restaurant and afterwards we all went to sleep.

The next day we woke up and had breakfast in the hotel. Everyone was acting normal (that was what I perceived at the moment) and talking about the plans of the day. We agreed to have a free morning and that we would meet after noon at Magnolia Bakery. Beto invited me to walk to Central Park before getting to the cupcake store and it sounded like a great idea to me.

Fortunately for us, the weather was very nice so we were able to have a nice walk. However, due to the past days, Central Park was still covered with snow at several places, such as the lakes. We walked like half hour through Strawberry Fields, enjoying the view, laughing and talking. As we kept walking, two amazing photographers (Petronella Photography) were taking pictures of Beto and I. At that moment I didn’t realice that we were the ones being photographed! I thought they were just taking artistic pictures everywhere in the park. We walked until I saw a little wooden cabin by a frozen lake and I told Beto if we could walk down the road to take pictures by the lake. Surprisingly to me, that was the place Beto had chosen to propose!! It is called Wagner Cove and it is a little romantic cabin by the lake where people go simply to relax and to enjoy the view.

When I started walking with Beto down the little path to get to the cabin, I couldn’t believe what I was seing!!! The cabin was decorated with pictures of us, macarons, flowers, and champagne. It was trully amazing!!!

I kept looking everywhere and when I was about to hug Beto, he reached into his coat pocket to get a ring box and got down on one knee. And I swear, that the whole world stopped for a moment. It was the happiest and most thrilling moment in my life. With tears in my eyes, I hugged him and said YES!!!! I really couldn’t believe it! It was the best surprised anyone had given me in my entire life! Beto took off my gloves and put me the ring on, which fitted perfectly on my finger!

At the end, neither of these two plans worked out so he decided to propose in NYC.

To me, it was the best proposal ever, not only because we were in NYC, one of our favorite cities, but because we were in a great moment of our relationship. We talked for about and hour, and during that time, the two amazing photographers I mentioned before kept taking pictures of us.

I appreciate Beto to have hired them during the proposal because they managed to capture every moment of it. We walked with them to the Friends’ Fountain in Central Park, got more shots, and then they went with us to Magnolia Bakery, where Beto had another surprise for me.

When we arrived to Magnolia Bakery, he took me to a little room at the back, where all his family and friends were waiting for us to celebrate. He had already bought in the store a box of custom made chocolate cupcakes that said: Beto and Andrea. This was the cherry on top of the cake!! The photographers took some more pictures and then left us to continue with the celebration. They were really amazing and I really recommend them. Next, I called my parents and sisters (they were in Mexico City) to tell them all, but to my surprise, they already knew everything and they were only waiting for me to call them! They told me they were very excited and anxious to see us both Beto and I. That day we went to have dinner to a cool place called Stanton Social and then we went out with Beto’s friends and family to a nightclub in the Meatpacking District. I really can say that this has been the best day of my life so far.
