How We Met
Gunner and I met freshman year of college. I met a girl named Ali that lived across the hall from me in our dorm. We were sorority sisters and did absolutely everything together. Turns out, she has another best friend named Gunner. He was always hanging out in her dorm room and I was so interested in him. She introduced us and we became fast friends. (The three of us are still best friends today and she is my maid of honor) Gunner and I quickly realized we had much in common and loved spending time together.
We dated some of our sophomore and junior years of college before going our separate ways. We still stayed friends and stayed in touch. I moved to Birmingham, AL after college, and he back to his hometown of Atlanta, GA. After three years apart, last May, he called me and said he was going to drive to Birmingham to take me out to dinner. He showed up and we picked up right where we left off. We talked all night long and it was just like we never left. We knew immediately we were meant to be. Fast forward to October, I moved to Atlanta and in December we went to look at rings.
How They Asked
I was patiently waiting for him to pop the question since we had been to look at rings already. On a Friday in March, he took me to lunch and said he made another appointment for us to look at rings again. At lunch, he told me his sister-in-law had planned a surprise birthday party for his brother the next week. We went to look at rings and I never really thought about the surprise party again.
On the day of the “surprise party,” he picks me up and said we had to pick up a present from his aunt’s house on the way. We pull up to her house, get out of the car, and he leads me up the steps to the most beautiful picnic I’ve ever seen. I quickly realized what was happening and it was the best day of my life! It was a long time coming and so, so perfect. I said “yes!”
