How We Met

Jonathan and I met when we were cast in Cornerstone Church’s Christmas Pageant. I was Mary and he was Joseph. We spent a lot of time rehearsing with each other during a two month period before the show, and we felt an instant connection from the first time we spoke. He was the only person I had ever known who could make me laugh uncontrollably over and over again and just made me feel so happy. We knew what we had was special so we wanted to take some time and get to know each other before rushing into anything. We had grown closer together during this process and on December 26th, 2013 Jonathan asked me to be his girlfriend on the top of the Tower of Americas. I said yes and the rest is history!!!

how they asked

Jonathan had our proposal planned since May 28th, 2016. This is the day he asked my father for my hand in marriage. We were on our annual Spring trip to the New Mexico mountains where my family stayed in our friends gorgeous cabin in the woods for a few days. While I was in the other room getting ready with my mom, he asked my father for a moment to step aside so speak with him privately. He hadn’t even finished everything he was planning on saying when my father said, “Of course! You are going to be the perfect husband for my daughter. I have complete peace about it.” Over the next couple of months, Jonathan purchased my engagement ring, shared with all of our family members what he planned to do for the proposal as well as asked them if they would come down to be there, and kept it a secret for 3 months as he used his lunch hours at work to spend the extra time planning out to the smallest of details.

Jon contacted his Uncle Dennis Stahl and Aunt Anna, who live in South Padre, and asked if they would be willing to allow him to use their lovely bay house as the location he could propose at. They were completely overjoyed and went above and beyond to make the day so special for us. We usually had our annual beach trip with the family down at South Padre, and we always went to have dinner with Uncle Dennis and Aunt Anna, so it wouldn’t make me suspicious at all. It had been pouring in South Padre the day before our proposal was planned and had just down poured a couple of hours before. His Aunt Anna dried every single couch cushion on the bay house deck with a blowdryer up until minutes before I arrived to the house-just to make sure everything was picture perfect for us. She’s amazing!

Little did I know that every single one of our family members were waiting for me at the bay house, but not for Uncle Dennis’ annual family dinner this time. Jon’s mom drove me to the house after everyone had already made their way over because I was still getting ready, somehow everyone had finished getting ready “early,” and then she said she was feeling a little sick…(she was stalling, but I had no clue!) We then arrived to the driveway and his mom handed me a small hand-crafted rolled up note that was tied with a red ribbon, looked at me right in the eyes and said, “I am going to go in. Please read this note before you make your way inside. Remember, I love you so much.” My hands began to shake as I took the note as I knew something was going on but I wasn’t exactly sure what. I opened it up and this is what was written inside.

I walked inside, up the stairs, and found this…

I followed the rose petals only to be greeted by the sound of Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud beautiful violin version playing in the background, the perfect sunset overlooking the water, and the man of my dreams with the biggest smile on his face and tons of streaming tears. I will never forget it. He gave me an unforgettable speech, got down on one knee and asked me for my hand in marriage…and I said YES!!!!!!

There was not one drop of rain in site throughout the proposal or even afterwards. The skies were completely cleared, and it was the best moment of my entire life!!! It was a complete dream proposal! Cannot wait for what is in store for us ahead.
