How We Met: Cole and I are both students at Blue Mountain College. I was already there when he transferred from a community college. We were both in the Worship Leadership degree program, in several of the same classes, and led worship together often during the school year. At that point in my life, I was completely closed off to being in a committed relationship because of hurt in the past, but that didn’t scare him off. As we began to get to know each other more, I realized that he was the first guy that I felt completely comfortable with opening up to. He made me laugh, treated me with respect, and I knew he would be the spiritual leader I had always prayed for. how they asked: We had a weekend Spring Break beach trip planned with a couple of my friends from home. Little did I know, the whole reason for the trip was because he was preparing to pop the question.
It was a Saturday night, and we were all getting ready to go take a few pictures on the beach and then go out for a nice dinner. When we got down to the boardwalk, my friend played it off as he ha forgotten his camera and had to go back and get it, when secretly he had it in his back pocket.
Cole and I go ahead towards the beach to wait for them (while they are getting ready to take pictures). He brought me over to this sand dune a little ways down the beach, where he had a beach mat and some candles all around set up very nicely.
On the mat was a scrapbook he had created that had every picture we’ve taken together including every important date. We both looked through the book until I got to the last page that said: “She Said…” with check boxes for yes and no. Of course, I knew immediately what my answer was. Then he got up on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was overwhelmed with emotion, and it took me a few seconds to get out my answer. Everything about that night was perfect, and I am so proud of him for being so creative.
