how we met
James and I met the very first day of college, in a completely random class we both took on a whim. I got to class early, so I could claim the best seat. James was maybe the 5th person to walk in, and sat in the seat right next to me, even though the entire class was basically empty. We would talk for a long time after every single class, but I didn’t hear for him for a couple months after the class ended. Finally, I got a call from him asking me out…after saying ‘no’ a couple times, he got really persistent so I finally agreed to go out with him. It was the best date I had ever been on, he pulled out all the stops to impress me. Six years later, he is still out-doing himself.
how they asked
James took me to Kauai for a vacation before I started my third year of medical school. On the third day we were there, he told me he made reservations at a restaurant at this gorgeous hotel on the island. He said the hotel had breathtaking views and we should get there early before dinner. We walked down to the beach, and went to a beautiful cove, Kamani Cove. I was so excited about the view, so I started taking pictures while my back was turned to him. When I turned around, he was on one knee. He had a whole speech that I’m sure he practiced, but I honestly don’t remember any of it because I was so happy. After I said ‘yes’, I noticed a guy who was taking pictures of us. I remember thinking how sweet this random man is to take those pictures of our special moment. I then found out it was a photographer that James had hired, which was so thoughtful since he knows how special pictures are to me. He planned everything with me in mind, even down to asking my parent’s permission. It was the happiest moment of my life.
