How We Met
June 2017 is the year I began talking to Ahmed on Facebook. My sister & her husband would always tell me about “this guy” and I finally wanted to see what he was all about. We began talking and became friends. The long-distance is what kept us from getting serious since I knew I could not make it to Bosnia to see him. We would talk on occasion, but in August 2019 is the year everything changed. After both of us being through so much, we ended being there for each other as friends and venting to each other.
In fact, we ended up talking every single day forward, and that’s when I started to realize that we had a lot in common. I ended up planning a trip to Bosnia to finally see him and meet him in person for the first time! December 11, 2019, I flew into Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, and there Ahmed was waiting for me. It was love at first sight! Our first kiss followed a couple of minutes into the meeting, and the gut feeling I had felt just right! Ahmed acted the same way he would talk to me on social media. Everything just felt right and for the first time, I was actually happy. I could not wait to start this trip and spend more time with him.
How They Asked
2 weeks into the trip we ended planning a trip to Zagreb, Croatia with my cousin and his friend. We were in Zagreb for a total of 3 days. The first day explored the beautiful city and took lots of pictures. The second day, we found our self walking the same streets, but this time it was different.
Ahmed told me the pictures we took the first day in Zagreb were very “special” to him and that he wanted to go to the same spot and take more. I found this very odd at first but I ended up going to “retake” those pictures.
On our way back to that same location, he slowed down but I didn’t think anything of it. A couple of feet in front of that same spot where we wanted to “retake” the pictures we took the day before. We turned around to “retake the picture”, but Ahmed was, in fact, bowing down on one knee asking me to marry him. I was in shock. I asked him if he was serious and he just smiled and said “yes”. After I said “yes” to Ahmed, I turn around and realize my cousin was recording the whole thing! Ahmed told me that he and my cousin in fact planned this whole proposal before the trip to Zagreb. I was beyond happy, we both were. This time we agreed we did not want to waste each other’s time, and we definitely did not want to distance ourselves from each other like the first time. We wanted to be more then friends. We fell in love with each other, and our similarities brought out the best in us. All those phone calls, text messages, and video calls made us close to each other, but seeing each other in person made us both realize that this, in fact, is all real feelings and that we do not want to continue our lives without each other.
