How We Met
Although we grew up together in the mountains of Lake Arrowhead, we were always just acquaintances that crossed paths every once and a while throughout middle and high school. It wasn’t until almost 10 years later that we finally reconnected and began to see each other in a different light. It was a tragic circumstance that brought us together after losing one of our best friends one summer. We found comfort and support in each other during the most difficult time of our lives. Through the pain and heartache, a beautiful new friendship blossomed between us, it was like a gift from up above. Everything came together a few months later with a New Years kiss that changed it all. There was no denying the love that was felt between the two of us. A few weeks later, Mike made it official with our first date; a moonlit picnic in La Jolla cove, complete with flowers, wine, cheese, and battery operated candles for the win! We ended the night with a fancy dinner at The Melting Pot, if the first part of the date didn’t win me over, he knew the cheese fondue definitely would. And it did, I was smitten. And the rest is history….
how they asked
Three years later, on February 15, 2017, Mike took me out for a “late anniversary” date (I broke my arm ice skating during winter break and was NOT in the mood to celebrate on our actual anniversary while sporting my fluorescent pink cast). Two days out of my cast, I excitedly got all dolled up for our surprise date, not knowing what the night would bring. He took me to La Jolla cove and recreated our first date, from the picnic to the candles, it was perfect! Our plan was to watch the sunset with some wine, and then head to dinner. Mike was setting everything up while I was waiting, enjoying the incredible sunset. Once I heard our favorite song playing over the speaker, I quickly turned around to find that Mike was right behind me, down on one knee. I couldn’t believe it was actually happening, I was in complete shock, and immediately started crying hysterically (if you know me, you know that this is no surprise). I may or may not have blacked out at this point, but I remember him saying something along the lines of, “You’re my best friend and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” I immediately grabbed his face, kissed him, and sobbed like a baby on his shoulder for 5 minutes. Obviously my answer was YES! Oh….and then he sealed the deal with more cheese fondue at the Melting Pot, the man knows me too well! It was absolutely perfect.
