Amber and John
How We Met
John and I met in elementary school when we were in third grade! We remained friends all throughout school, but it wasn’t until our freshman year of high school that we began dating. We won cutest couple of our senior class in 2013, and the rest as the saying goes, is history!
how they asked
This was the most magical day of my life! Ever since we were sophomores in college, John and I have been taking trips to the Caribbean each year (usually in January, because we were on winter break in school and this is when our anniversary is as well). Ever since our very first trip to the Caribbean we both would talk about how beautiful it would be to be married in the Caribbean. Because we both are so close with our families, we knew we wanted a wedding close by where everyone we love could be with us to celebrate- which meant a destination wedding was out of the picture for us. I remember always hoping that because we wouldn’t have our wedding on a beach- that maybe John would one day propose to me on a beautiful beach in the Caribbean!
Instead of taking our usual January trip this year, we decided to go in July with two of our best friends to celebrate me graduating from nursing school! In May this year, I graduated from Rutgers school of Nursing and sat for my nursing boards in July- and thank god I passed!!!!! I planned to take the boards about a week before our vacation, which meant this vacation was an extra cause for celebration!
Finally, it was July 21st and we were off to Sandals Regency La Toc in St. Lucia! Truly, the most beautiful island we have ever been to. I woke up on the morning of July 25th, clueless what that day would hold for John and I! We started our morning the same as we always did on vacation- breakfast, champagne, and relaxing in the pool all day!
On each vacation, John and I always set aside a photo session with a photographer at the resort, so it was no surprise that we would do it this trip as well. We left the pool to start getting ready for our photos (still, totally clueless). When we walked out of our room, I saw a handmade sign with an arrow on it, my name, and the #1 written on an envelope. I immediately began to cry. At this very moment, I knew my best friend was going to ask me to be his wife. What I didn’t know was that John planned to have a photographer follow us as we followed the arrows collecting each envelope! Each envelope was numbered 1-10, and each had something John loved about me written inside. We followed the arrows down to the beach, where there were rose petals in the shape of a heart in the sand with one final envelope inside! I opened the envelope and when I finished reading, John grabbed my hands and got down on one knee, asked me to spend the rest of our lives together, and placed the most beautiful ring on my finger!
Through the tears and excitement I said YES! I will never forget the happiness and love we were filled with in this moment. I was reminded that day of the thoughtful, romantic, kind man that I fell in love with almost 9 years ago, and he truly pulled off an engagement that was more than anything I could have ever dreamed of. To top off the beautiful moment we shared together- when I said yes, John pointed behind me where two of our best friends were standing waving shirts that said “fiancé” on them! It was the best day of our lives together, but we know it will only get better from here!
