How We Met
The Shipp’s Journey: March 30, 2012, two people embarked on a journey that would change their lives forever. Due to the eventful weekend in Memphis leading to us joining two of the greatest organizations, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. and Iota Sweethearts, Inc. (Formally Iota Sweethearts Aux), who would’ve thought it would lead to us falling in love and ultimately getting married.
During our friendship, we would talk via social media and every now and then via text (nothing major) lol, then we eventually went on with our lives finishing up our college degrees at Northwood University and University of TN Martin not thinking we would ever get together. Our Initial face to face meeting was in Detroit ( Amanda’s Hometown) during Spring 14 Regionals, where Trevor was checking her out but because we were involved with someone else he didn’t want to express how he felt.
Fast forward to how we became an item.
It all started on November 1, 2016, where Trevor was hanging out with some friends and snapped a photo of him and his crew on Snap Chat. Amanda sends a comment “I Like your Beard” and that’s how the love story truly begins. On November 12 we started talking like we’ve known each other since childhood. Face timing every morning, texting during the day, and face timing at night till we fell asleep. The constant communication led to Amanda visiting Trevor in Memphis August 19-22nd, 2017 which was his birthday weekend.
During the birthday weekend was when we noticed we were inseparable. August 31, 2017, we planned for me to move to Memphis, September 15, 2017, Amanda embarked on a new chapter by moving to Memphis, October 20th, 2018 he officially proposed. Now here we are planning our Royalty Wedding.
How They Asked
On October 20, 2018, Amanda and I were in the middle of a regional conference with our respective fraternity and auxiliary organizations. I knew since we moved in together that I wanted to marry her and propose before years end. I asked Amanda to schedule an appointment with David’s Bridal for her bridesmaids to try on dresses. I also had my mother and cousin attend to create a diversion so Amanda wouldn’t suspect a thing. I was in the middle of a meeting when I snuck out and told everyone I was going to get engaged. I arrived at David’s Bridal, surprising Amanda, and ultimately popping the question. I was a little concerned because she had this very tired look on her face, but she undoubtedly said yes, making me the happiest man alive.
