Amanda and Robert
How We Met
I met Bobby through a mutual friend. I had just gotten out of a break up and my friend had said she had the perfect guy for me to meet. He was really close friends with her boyfriend and after some preliminary questions about him I said yes. We had planned a time to meet at her and her boyfriends house and go mini golfing together. I made sure to arrive earlier than him so it would be less awkward on me. I didn’t really know what to expect but as soon as he got there, he had the biggest, sweetest smile and I immediately knew I was going to like him! During mini golfing I had a feeling he was going easy on me and letting me win. I told him I was going to win either way so he didn’t need to let me. I was super confident that night in my mini golfing abilities, but really I’m horrible at it! I ended up winning, and he said he didn’t let me, that he had really tried. Of course later on in our relationship he admits that he let me win! After that day, we had said we should get together again as a group and we met up with those same mutual friends for drinks. After about the 3rd time of that, as he was walking me to my car, he asked me if he could have my number. I said yes, and he had said that he’d like to see me without our friends and to take me out by myself. Our first real date was at a diner in Milford, PA. After that, the rest is history!
how they asked
We were coming home on the highway from getting some food (Chipotle of course!) when he said that something was wrong with the car and he had to pull over to look at it. We pulled off at the overlook rest stop where you can see the whole town of Port Jervis, NY. He popped the hood and I stayed in the car. A few minutes later I hear him yelling for me to come out of the car and to look at something. I could only see his face through the small space between the hood and car and he looked so nervous that I had thought something was seriously wrong with the car.
I stepped out and came around the front and there he was, on one knee and a ring in his hand. He said “I couldn’t wait any longer. This isn’t where I wanted to do this, but I’ve had this ring on me for so long and I couldn’t wait. Will you marry me?” I was so nervous, I immediately put my hands in my pockets and started nervously playing with the insides of the pocket. I looked away a few times because I didn’t think it was real. When he asked if I would marry him, I paused from the shock and he became even more nervous. He asked again and of course I said yes!
After saying yes, I had to double check with him through my tears to make sure there really was nothing wrong with the car. I still didn’t believe it was real. Its only been a few days now but it still hasn’t sunk in that I’m going to marry the love of my life.
