Amanda and Daniel

Wedding Proposal Ideas in Indianapolis Canal

How We Met

Daniel and I met at the Indiana State Fair on August 14, 2010. We originally began talking on Facebook and I was so on edge because of all the catfish stories or the possibility of him being some creepy old guy who is trying to take advantage of a younger girl. So I didn’t share much information at first. But once we decided to meet in person, I was beyond excited because I really wanted him to be legit. Sure enough, once I walked up to the go-kart track at the state fair, there he was looking just as good as he did in all his Facebook pictures. Once him and his best friend, Jon, finished their race, we sat and talked for awhile.

However, soon my mom was ready to leave so we didn’t get much time together. For the next few months, we saw each other off and on during the weekends when he didn’t have a hockey game or I didn’t have something to do with my family. Then on October 31, 2010, in my best friend’s basement he finally asked me to officially be his girlfriend! I was so happy that he finally asked because he wanted to wait longer due to hockey taking up a lot of his time but I was a hockey sister, I think I could handle being a hockey girlfriend too! From that day on, the rest has been history!

how they asked

We met our junior year in high school and once we went to college, my parents set a rule in place that I wasn’t allowed to get engaged during college. So after 4 years of college and 2 graduation ceremonies, we were done with college! I knew a proposal was coming at some point because we had been together for 5 1/2 years and we had had the conversations about wanting to spend forever together. He easily became the love of my life and my best friend all in one. It was 6 days post-graduation and Daniel told me that he wanted to go downtown and have a date night for us to celebrate me graduating from nursing school and him landing a job as an Indiana State Trooper. I didn’t think anything of it because we had some friends who recently got engaged and they had told Daniel to play tricks on me and make me think it was coming but then it actually not come, that way I didn’t expect it.

Well even though this was the first date night post-graduation, I definitely wasn’t expecting it. I got a little suspicious when he told me he wanted to go downtown at 3 in the afternoon, which is early for us to eat dinner. But I let it go. Then when we got downtown, we parked at the canal, which is not near really any restaurants. That made me suspicious again but I let that go too. I began to think he just wanted some “us” time to walk the canal and find a place for dinner. We started walking the canal and just talking about anything and everything. I could feel his hand holding mine tighter than normal. We rounded a corner and then he looked at me and says, “I have something to ask you!” I knew it right then and there. I started to freak out. He turned to face me and got down on one knee wit his hands shaking. All I could do was say, “Are you serious?!”

Finally he asked, “Will you marry me?” and of course, I said “YES!” I began to cry as his shaking hand placed the most beautiful ring on my shaking finger! He then told me, once I calmed down, that my best friend from elementary school was right across the canal taking pictures of the whole thing. I was so swooning and my heart was so warm because he thought about asking my oldest best friend! I was in complete awe the entire night. He later told me that he had intended to give me some long speech before asking but in the moment, all he could think of was, “I love you”. Later he wrote me a note of what he would’ve said that day. Now I continue to catch myself staring at my ring and daydreaming about our proposal that was absolutely perfect for us!
