How We Met
Well, this is a funny story. In 2009, I coached women’s soccer at the University of Maine at Farmington in 2009. We both attended local rivalry schools. He and a few college buddies came to a game (one whom I went to high school with). I was in a white rain jacket, black windbreaker pants walking across the field after the game when he asked a buddy “Who is that? I need to meet her?” I had walked up the hill and noticed my friend. I stopped to say hi. I noticed him. He noticed me. Later in the week, I Facebook messaged him. Yes, it’s true, I sent the first message.
We had been best friends since 2009. Little did I know, he actually had feelings the whole time. I went off to physician assistant school at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Massachusetts. He still kept in touch and when I returned, I realized how much I actually liked him more than a best friend. He still tells people “I’ve been in love with her since the first time I saw her back in 2009.” We started dating in 2013. It’s safe to say, we learned persistence paid off.
how they asked
December 9, 2016, I received a call from Corey while I was shopping for his birthday. He said ‘I need you to be ready by 2pm today. I need to go help my aunt at camp.” I knew we had plans for dinner with his best friends, but I was not expecting what would happen next. He came home and I was all dressed up, (even had my leather pants on for dinner). He said ‘I didn’t mean THAT ready, hun. I meant showered and what you’d wear to camp in the winter.’ I obviously went for go to outfit: spandex, over-sized coat, and my LL bean duck boots. We arrived at his family’s camp. He spoke ‘I’d want nothing more on my birthday than to make you my wife for the rest of my life’ and proceeded to get down on one knee.
I don’t remember much after, but I do remember saying YES, YES, YES!!!
