How We Met
When I was approached with a job opportunity in Charleston, SC something told me to just go. I had never been there nor did I have a single friend there, but at the time I figured if I was ever going to pick up and move, it would be then. I made the move and quickly realized I missed Chicago more than expected… Upon my departure from the south, one of my Charleston friends mentioned that a family friend of hers just moved to the city. Not thinking much of it, I agreed to grab drinks once I got back. Collin and I met at a bar in Lincoln Park for a happy hour and never looked back. After drinks was a Friday brunch, then some saturday college football followed by the official dinner “date”. We quickly realized we were made for each other and never wanted to be apart. Unbeknownst to me, a seemingly bold move to the south led me to the man of my dreams.
how they asked
It was a typical Friday night. Drinks then dinner was a norm for us so I thought nothing of heading to our favorite spot, The Peninsula Hotel downtown for a cocktail. Once we arrived, we were escorted to a cozy seat near the fire. Collin mentioned he needed to go to the restroom so I proceeded to explore the drink menu. The concierge came over and handed me a letter. At first I was sure it was a mistake until I noticed Collin’s handwriting. The letter stated how lucky he felt to have found me and to come meet him on the ice rink outside. With pure confusion on my face, the concierge offered to show me the way. Once I opened the door, I spotted Collin standing in the middle of the ice rink on a red carpet and rose petals scattered around.
I said in the most loving way “If this is not what I think it is, I am going to be so mad!” With tears streaming down my face, I met him in the middle of the rink where he told me that he used to always wonder when he would meet the woman that would one day become his wife, and that he not longer has to wonder. Collin got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I could hardly contain my excitement and quickly said yes!
Collin said he had one last surprise and showed me a video that compiled all of our trips, photos and favorite spots around the city. We celebrated our engagement weekend in Michigan at a bed & breakfast and are so excited for the journey ahead!
