How We Met

I met Chase on August 8th, 2015. I had just recently moved to Roanoke, VA and didn’t know anyone. My roommate and I headed downtown to explore our new city when we stumbled into Chase. Within 5 minutes of meeting him, I knew he was the one. Chase and I had the craziest chemistry between us and it was like nothing I had ever felt before. When I got home that night, I texted my mom, “I think I just met my husband.” We both thought I was crazy but I knew I had found him. From that day on, Chase was all I thought about.

My mom came to visit two weeks later. We were walking downtown when she said to me, “There has to be some cute boys for you to date down here. Look! Like that boy, right there.” She was pointing at Chase. I immediately grabbed her hand and said. “Oh my God. Don’t point! Keep walking!” Chase and I passed each other, said hello, and my stomach flipped. My mom could tell something was up and goes, “Uhm… who was THAT?” Completely frazzled, I replied, “Mom, that’s him! The boy I’m going to marry!” My mom looked at me and said, “I honestly thought you were crazy but you might be onto something. That boy likes you.”

A few weeks later, Chase and I went downtown to get drinks. We ended up staying out until 3a.m. just talking to each other. It was like we were in our own world; we didn’t notice anyone or anything else going on around us except each other.

Shortly after that, Chase asked me to go to Jack Brown’s with him. I was so excited when I got his text! I sent pictures of my outfit to my mom and best friends to make sure it was perfect. When I got there, I could see it in the way he looked at me that he felt the same way I did. Later on that night, Chase said to me, “This is going to sound crazy. I don’t even know how to say this but here it goes. Ever since the day I met you, you’ve been all I think about. I walk my dog multiple times a day trying to run into you. I daydream about you at work. I can’t get you out of my head. I’ve never felt like this before, with anyone.” I was stunned. I blankly stared at him for a few minutes before I could even respond. After collecting myself, I looked at him and said, “You’re not crazy, I feel the exact same way you do.” From that moment on, we were inseparable.

how they asked

Chase planned the most beautiful proposal right on the spot we met that very first night! He told me his company was having their annual fall dinner at The Hotel Roanoke. He brought home an invitation that said it was business casual, so I picked out my favorite dress and asked his sister if she wanted to get her nails done with me before the event. When Chase picked me up that night, he told me we were meeting a few of his coworkers at Jack Brown’s before we headed to the hotel. I had no idea what was about to happen.

Chase and I parked downtown and started walking towards JB’s. When we rounded the corner, I saw the most beautiful display of sunflowers and mason jars – my two favorite things!

As soon as I pieced together what was happening, I started crying.

I was completely in shock. I was so overwhelmed with joy that I couldn’t even stand still.

Chase had to get down on one knee twice before I could keep it together long enough to say yes!

He grabbed my hands, kneeled down, and said, “Amanda, you know how much I love you. You know I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

I, of course, said YES!

He placed the ring on my finger and when I looked up, I spotted my mom! I started crying even harder. It was the happiest moment of my life.

As you can see, the sign says 08.27.16. Chase was supposed to propose in August but got kidney stones and we spent the weekend in the emergency room!

The sign now reads, “This is the only stone I want to pass 10.01.16.” So crazy!
