How We Met
We met through mutual friends because of an Instagram post (how millennial of us!). He is in the marines so our relationship started as friendly conversation via text and Face-time, and we talked every chance we got about anything and everything. When he finally came home on leave, I picked him up from the airport, which is the craziest thing I’ve ever done! We knew each other before but had only met in person a handful of times. Nothing was awkward, everything just clicked, and we went from there!
how they asked
He was coming home from his post-deployment leave on December 23, 2016. It also happens to my best friend’s birthday, so my plan was to pick him up at the airport and go celebrate with all of our friends! He sent me his “itinerary”, and I was prepared to get him at the airport at 3pm. Another friend of mine called that morning and told me she wanted me to go get lunch with her. I told her I couldn’t eat because I was too excited about picking up my boyfriend that I hadn’t seen for SEVEN MONTHS! But I settled for a smoothie instead of lunch. Then she started driving me around to stores which made me antsy because I just wanted to get in my car and go to the airport. I told her she was being weird, and told her she would need to come to the airport with me if she kept it up! She started to drive me back to my parents house and I asked her if she wanted to come inside and say hello to my dogs.
My dogs are my world, so this wasn’t unusual! The time was now 1:00 pm and I wanted to get on the road soon. She said yes and started to walk inside with me. I opened the front door and saw my two Italian greyhounds in their fanciest outfits, and then I saw him, sitting there with the biggest smile on his face! I then noticed a sign around one of my dog’s neck, that said “will you marry me?”
I am super awkward so my the first word that came out of my mouth was “oh!” Everyone laughed of course and my dog jumped and the sign fell off of her. He then came over to me and hugged me, and kissed me a thousand times, our first hug and kiss in a VERY long time! Not to mention probably the first kiss I’ve ever had in front of my parents!
Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said yes immediately. He had a photographer there who captured every moment and those pictures will forever be my favorite!
