How We Met
Steven and I met the summer before our junior year of high school when we were 16 years old. I was already in the process of transferring to where he was going to school before I met him, because I had friends who went there. One night in July 2010, I had a sleep over with my friends and they were showing me different individuals who went to the school on Facebook. They came across Stevens Facebook page and I told them I thought he was cute. One of our friends told me she would let him know to contact me because he was single also. I didn’t hear from him right away, so I took initiative and Facebook messaged him. We were both going out of town a couple days later, so we couldn’t hangout right away. He then asked for my number and while we were out of town we were always texting! He asked if when we got back if we could hangout. I said yes, even though he was still a complete stranger to me. Little did I know that on July 11, 2010 I would hangout with the man I was going to marry. Steven that afternoon came and picked me up from my house to go to Flagler beach. We got to the beach and hit it off right away, like we have known each other for forever! We didn’t have plans after the beach, but Steven asked me if I would like to go see a movie at City Place with him after the beach. I said of course, and we went and saw the movie Grown-Ups. He dropped me off at home after, and I couldn’t help but think, “I really like this guy, I hope we hangout again”. After that day at the beach, he asked me to be his girlfriend on July 15, 2010 and the rest is history!
how they asked
On July 15, 2017 was our 7 year anniversary and I was 32 weeks pregnant with our son Parker who is due September 9, 2017. Steven and I had talked about getting married in the past, but I didn’t think it was going to happen that day. For our 7 year anniversary he said lets go to lunch and then go to the beach for a couple minutes where our first date was. I agreed, even though it was super hot outside and I was very pregnant. We went to lunch at Taboo on Worth Avenue then we headed over to the beach. Steven had brought a backpack with waters and a towel, and I thought that was all that was in there. We went down to the part of the beach where we first had our date and sat there watching the waves. He then pulled a scrapbook out of his backpack that he had made me for our anniversary and I was in shock. It took him two weeks to complete and when he said he was “out golfing” he was actually working on this for me at his moms house. It had all of our love notes from high school till now, all the paper football necklaces I had made him for Friday night games (I was his cheerleader), and the pictures of how we have grown up together. He divided the album into High School, College, Post College, and then he had a note to me about our son Parker. I immediately began crying reading the note. Steven told me to flip the page and there was a note dated 7/15/17 that said “read out loud”. I read the note out loud that explained how much he loved me, and cared about me and how 7 years ago he asked me to be his girlfriend and now he has one more question. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I of course said yes!! On the next page he had a note and a pen that said, “Will you marry me?” with a box to check yes or to check no. I immediately checked yes! As I was checking yes, my best friend Keily from high school came over who was hiding taking pictures of us the whole time. I couldn’t believe it! Steven then stated that all of our family members are at his mom’s house for a party and they are waiting for us! I was completely surprised and we celebrated with our families the rest of the night! Needless to say, it was the proposal of my dreams and I can’t wait to marry my high school sweetheart!
