How We Met
The story of how Riley and I met began almost two years ago. It so happens that we frequented the same lounge pretty often, but had never seen or met each other. One night changed it all when I walked in and spotted him, he spotted me. We caught eyes with each other multiple times throughout the night but no moves were made. Riley and his friends had left already when I asked my friend Oliver (who also happened to work there), “who was the cute guy in the hat?” He was unsure of who I was talking about because there were about 3 guys with hats on. The following week, Riley walked up to Oliver and asked “Where’s my girl?” And thanks to our friend Oliver, we met. Although we started dating almost instantly, I gave Riley a run for. He eventually won me over by being the true gentleman that he is, showing up to my house with beautiful bouquets of flowers to replace the ones he had previously given me when he noticed they were wilting, and by serenading me with Taylor Swift songs (I’m kind of obsessed). Needless to say, he stole my heart.
how they asked
Fast forward a year and a half and Riley is in the Air Force. Since joining, we had only seen each other for a total of four days during his graduation from BMT (pictured above). We both thought enough was enough and booked a plane ticket for me to see him in Mississippi where he is currently stationed along the Gulf Coast. I flew from Los Angeles to Mississippi, hopped in my rental car and drove to his base to see him. That, of course, was an emotional reunion. After a long day of traveling I had worked up an appetite. We decided to go grab a quick casual dinner at a restaurant right on the beach. Following dinner, he suggested we take a walk on the beach. We walked along the soft white sand until we were the only ones left on the beach. We finally stopped walking when he pulled me in close, held me and began nervously whispering sweet things in my ear. “I’m so happy you’re finally here, I can’t wait for our future together, I’m so in love with you, there’s no one in the world I’d rather be with and spend the rest of my life with.” Finally he said, “remember how I told you I would put a ring on your finger one day? Well, I think today’s that day. Alyssa Marie Garcia…will you marry me?” He got down on one knee and proposed. I was in complete disbelief! I immediately said yes and leaped into his arms!
Between hugging, smiling, crying and screaming with excitement, I almost forgot about the whole part where he puts the ring on my finger. Laughingly he said “babe I think we should put the ring on now.” That’s when the second round of crying and screaming with excitement began; the ring was absolutely gorgeous!! Just what I had been dreaming of; a rose gold morganite ring with diamonds surrounding. Of course I had to know how he knew this was the ring I wanted. He told me he was in talks with my best friend, asking her for ring advice. My bestie showed him the ring, it was on my Pinterest board titled “One Day”.
Of course, now I can rename that Pinterest board titled “One Day” to “Next Year”. I couldn’t dream up a better man to one day call my husband. We’re so excited to start this next chapter of our lives and can’t wait to tie the knot in 2017!
