How we met: Never in a million years would I have thought going out with an old friend from high school on a Friday night would be where I would meet my future husband.
Jess and I were friends in high school but had lost touch during college and reconnected when we worked at the same program for adults with developmental disabilities. After going through a bad breakup, she suggested we go out in Boston because we were overdue for a night of fun. When we arrived at Clery’s in the Back Bay, she spotted a friend who was out with a big group of people that included Mike. We talked all night and went out on our first date a few weeks later and the rest is history!
how they asked: Mike popped the question on our one year anniversary, November 1. I worked a wedding earlier that day at my family’s restaurant and then spent the afternoon hunting for a Halloween costume because as far as I knew, we were going to a party later that night.
Mike made reservations at Legal Sea Foods Harborside where we had our first date and where he knew held many memories for me (my parents took me there after I graduated from Emerson College in 2012). We arrived right on time which never happens and I had just shared hilarious stories with him about my best friend and what she was texting me earlier that day.
The Maitre d greeted us upon arrival and immediately led us in the direction of our table past the waitstaff and open kitchen. I followed closely behind Mike who followed behind the Maitre d. I was confused when he told us to enjoy because we were not close to a table and instead were in an open space in front of a smaller section of the dining room. It didn’t even hit me when I looked over and saw his mom, brother, my best friend, and her boyfriend (my parents, brother, and his girlfriend were running a little late) that something was up. After I recognized them, I looked over to excitedly point out that his mom was there and Mike was down on one knee. He said things that will always be kept between the two of us and gave me the most beautiful ring I have ever seen! We spent the night eating amazing food and drinking champagne with the most important people in our lives. My best friends boyfriend took these photos and we will never be able to thank him enough for capturing it. I had never thought about how I would want to be proposed to because I always thought about the wedding but this was the most perfect proposal in the world.
Needless to say, we never made it to that Halloween party.
