How we met: When Kramer asked me on a date for the first time, I was completely terrified. I was a freshman at Western and I didn’t know anything about him, other than that one of my best friends had awesome things to say about him and of course that he was tall, handsome and that I just had to meet this mysterious man. He picked me up from my college dorm and completely swept me off my feet. Kramer took me to the park and we sat on the swing set talking the night away learning so many new things about each other. He brought along hot chocolate and we sipped cocoa and gazed at the city together laughing and blushing from first date jitters. From this point on, I knew he was the one.
how they asked: When I woke up on November 15th, I had no idea I’d be falling asleep that night with a shiny new addition to my left hand. The morning of, I was planning to go on a fancy lunch date with two of my best friends, however just before we got to the restaurant they asked if I wanted to take a walk down by the boats in the marina. At this point I was starving but it was the most beautiful day ever (I may be a little bias when I say that) so I thought, why not! As we walked down to the dock, I noticed someone standing near the end. Once we got to the end of the dock I recognized her and I remembered that I knew her from a camp that Kramer and I had been to together. Karen looked at us and asked what our plans were for the day and we just said we were going to have a girls date. She smiled at me and asked if we wanted to take a free tour around Bellingham in her floatplane that was docked right next to us while she waited for her next passengers. I’ve never been more excited about anything in my life, so of course we said yes. Meanwhile my two best friends and Karen were all so happy I was falling for Kramer’s well-orchestrated plan. We boarded the plane and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more excited about anything. I even texted Kramer telling him how I was shocked at such a coincidence and I couldn’t wait to tell him about it later that day. Shortly after I came to realize that Karen being there with her plane, and me not going to lunch was all part of the most incredible plan.
After we took off I was so overwhelmed with the beauty of the Bellingham bay and the gorgeous sunshine. I turned to Molly with excitement and she looked at me and said, “Lyss, Kramer wanted you to have this” and at that moment, my heart dropped and I knew I was about to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. She handed me a handwritten love letter from him, in which its last lines stated, “I asked your dad, and talked with Jesus, I’m going to need you to free up your left hand for me lyss, I love you”. Immediately I started balling and I have never felt so special or loved in my entire life. Next thing I knew we were flying above Elliott Bay in Seattle and I had never seen a more beautiful city. As we landed my heart only began to race more and more with anticipation to see my soon to be fiancé. My best friends and I were picked up on a small boat by Kramer’s brother who brought us to the back of the most gorgeous yacht (feeling like a movie star yet?). This was the most incredible and exhilarating adventure I had ever been on and the best part hadn’t even come yet. The second I stepped foot on the boat I felt so special, cared for and important. All of the planning that had to have gone into this day and all for me? I couldn’t wait to say yes. I followed the white roses that led to the most handsome man on the bow of a beautiful boat with the Seattle skyline gracing us with its presence in the background. He looked at me with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen, he hugged me and said how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I’ve never been so speechless or felt so loved, he then got down on his knee and asked, “Alyssa, I love you, will you marry me?” I just looked at him and said “I love you, of course!!”. I was shocked, so excited and so at peace knowing that I get to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams.
He stood up and hugged me and right then the horn of the boat blew and all of our family and friends jumped up and celebrated with us the most incredible moment in our lives. Having the people who mean the most to me witness that moment with us is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. That day night we celebrated, toasted and cried tears of joy as we came to the surreal reality that we get to spend the rest of our lives together and that day was just the beginning.
