How We Met
I met Chris in 2012 when I was 12 and he was 13, at a music school in Port Jefferson known as School of Rock. Chris is a drummer and I am a singer. It was a Tuesday afternoon on his practice day at the school which I, at the time never went to the school on that particular day ever. My friend had texted me asking if I wanted to go to School of Rock that night to hang out with everyone and of course I said yes because I loved the school, and took every chance I could get just to be there. I went to the school and sat around for a bit and noticed a boy with long goofy hair playing drums and it caught my eye. I didn’t think anything of it because I didn’t know him so I went along with the night and met some other musicians too. Later in the evening when I got home, I went on Facebook and saw a message from another student at the school named Matt. (Matt happens to be Chris’ cousin) I opened the message and the conversation basically started with “hey, do you know Chris Bookman?” I, of course, did not know the name so I told him I did not. To get to the point, Matt told me that he was a drummer at the school and that he was interested in talking to me and that I should message him. Thank god I messaged him because from the beginning of talking to him it developed from a strong friendship to “dating” (we were both young kids at the time so dating at that point was not serious). Dating as a young teen did not work out, so after a year or so of dating on and off, we broke up. Little did I know, Chris’ mom had told him “Be nice to her, you never know who you are going to marry!” Fast forward 2 and a half years, I was still a student at the School of Rock and Chris was not, but he was a drummer in a band. On the weekend of August 19, 2016, The school and his band were traveling to Wildwood NJ to perform for a weekend. Chris and his cousin Matt are in the same band so Chris had asked Matt if I was going to be there and finding out that I was made Chris have butterflies and decide to text me. When I received a text on that Friday night my heart skipped a beat because I was so head over heels for Chris when we dated a few years back, I could not believe my eyes. I looked at my mom and said: “o.m.g you will never believe who just texted me!” My mom was surprised as much as I was! Later that night Chris texted again asking if we could meet up and talk and I was so excited I replied back so fast saying yes so many times. I was 16 and Chris was 18 and the maturity growth between the two of us from when we dated the first time was amazing. When we met up we clicked instantly and I never wanted the night to end. The rest of the weekend was spent together and that weekend I knew he was the man I want to spend the rest of my life with (silly to say at 16 years old but the saying is true. If you are meant to be with someone, it will happen and Chris and I are proof.)
How They Asked
On the week of January 12th, 2020, Chris’ family and I took a trip to Florida to go to Disney. Like any other vacation we had different days planned with different things but little did I know I was about to be asked the big question. On Monday, January 13th, 2020 we went to the Magic Kingdom for the day. As we got there we all planned already to get professional pictures done so we set out to find the perfect spot to have our pictures taken. After we took our pictures in front of the castle I started to walk away. Chris pulled me back and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
While the photographer snapped tons of pictures, my mom, who flew down just to be able to witness this moment ran up and surprised both Chris and me.
I had no idea that Chris had asked my mom for my hand in marriage prior to leaving for vacation. This day ended up being a dream come true and was the biggest surprise I have received. My mom and his whole family were there to share this special day with us and it could not have been any more perfect. It was the best day of life and I’m so happy I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend Chris.
