How We Met
Andrew and I met back in 2009 when we worked part-time together while going to school. We became really close friends and that developed into something more along the way. We ended up drifting apart but somehow god kept pulling us together and we remained friends. However, even when we weren’t together Andrew was the one person that was always by my side during any situation – he held my hand during scary times, was there whenever I accomplished a goal, spent hours in the hospital with me when I had health scares, listened to me and always surprised me by showing me how much he cared about not only me but my daughter (and family). About 2.5 years ago, we decided to give it another try and we began dating again and we have been inseparable ever since. He has shown me what love is supposed to be like, he has been an amazing figure in my daughter’s life and he makes us feel special every day. He is truly the love of my life.
How They Asked
Fast forward to April 18th, 2020 where my dreams since I was a 5-year-old girl came true – he asked me to marry him! Little did I know Andrew was planning on proposing for a few months now trying to plan the perfect destination proposal in Banff (one of my dream places to visit), but due to Covid19, he was forced to change the plans numerous times. But, despite everything going on in the world – Andrew surprised me with the most perfect proposal and it was everything I dreamed of and more! Due to the lockdown, Andrew decided to self-isolate with my daughter and me at my house so he could help out and prevent us from having to go back and forth or not see each other. It had been about three weeks of self-isolating so we decided that we would make a trip to his parents’ house to pick up some extra clothes for him during a porch pickup – also so we could see his family. We spent hours talking with his family and even celebrated his brother’s birthday that passed a couple of weeks ago – little did I know we would be celebrating something else a few hours later.
We also decided since it was a little change of scenery that we would treat it like a little date! So, our plan was to go for a sunset walk by the waterfront (since that is still allowed) because if you know me this is one of my favorite things to do. So, when it was getting pretty late Andrew told me we should probably leave and head on our walk since it was about to get dark. We arrived at the waterfront and began our walk just as the sun was beginning to set. It was beautiful! We decided to take some pictures and Andrew insisted that we walk a bit further to see if we could get a better view of the sunset! On the walk, I kept saying we should leave because it was getting really cold, but Andrew insisted for a few more minutes! Once we got to the spot Andrew said I should go check out the edge to see the view – we joked around and I asked if he was trying to push me over since I’m terrified of heights – he replied with “of course not!”. I decided to check out the view– it was beautiful and I decided to snap a photo of the water/sunset one last time! When I went to turn around to see if Andrew wanted to take a picture together, I saw him on ONE KNEE with a ring box!
I was so shocked at the moment and I think I actually blacked out because all I remember was him asking me to make him the happiest man in the world by marrying him! I immediately jumped on him screaming “YES! Of course!” This was then followed by him asking if that was a yes and putting the ring on my hand that was shaking! We spent the next few minutes just soaking it all in, and taking some photos/videos so we can always remember that moment! There was even the perfect spot in the sand where we got to write A² which is something we have done almost everywhere we go! It was literally PERFECT!
After we enjoyed the moment the two of us, we face timed my family and told my daughter that he had proposed! She began to cry almost immediately because she said she was so excited to be a family together and to have a dad because she loved Andrew so much. So, not only did my dreams come true on April 18th, 2020 but so did my daughters!
That night we also were able to visit both of our families (while social distancing) to tell them the big news and got to have little porch celebrations that were so special!
We have spent the past few days of our engagement sharing the news with our family and friends via Face time and porch visits! It has been amazing to share positive news during this time. We cannot wait to celebrate with all our friends and family once this is all over! I can’t wait to marry my best friend!
These photos and video were taken right after Andrew proposed. Here are some photos we took the next morning to announce and celebrate our engagement. It has always been on my list to have my sister photograph part of my engagement as she is a professional photographer (ASH Photography Services) -so, I’m so glad we were able to have her capture these amazing shots to look back on for years to come!
