Aly and Hayden
How We Met
Our engagement, like our love story, has been years in the making. Hayden and I have known each other since we were young teenagers, but our love story began nearly five years ago. It’s truly one for the books.
I actually met Hayden about 8 years ago (during those awkward teen years. We don’t talk about it). I met him because my boyfriend at the time and I would hang out with his older brother. I became really close with his famil, especially after that boyfriend and I ended our relationship. We went to church together and occasionally talked.
Hayden’s mom ended up hiring me to do administrative work for their new church. I spent A LOT of time with the family at that point, and therefore got to know Hayden more. One night we just sorta clicked. And the rest is history.
Over the past five years, we’ve grown up together and have truly brought out the best in each other. There’s no relationship quite like ours. We are best friends, and each other’s one true love.
how they asked
When I say our engagement was years in the making, I mean that. Hayden is studying to be an architect and he knew he would have to study abroad in Rome, Italy for a semester. The plan was always for me to come and visit, but his plan also included a surprise proposal! To put it into perspective, he’s been planning this (and had the ring) for almost two years.
The day of my arrival in Rome, I was excited and nervous to see him again (and maybe a bit hopeful that this trip would bring good things, like a little red box). After lots of hugs and kisses and getting settled in, we set out to explore the city.
Hayden took me to a museum on Capitoline Hill, which had a terrace with the most stunning view of Rome. While we were on the terrace, we set up my tripod and Hayden had our remote clickers. I love photography, so he tricked me into brining all this gear. I thought he just wanted some “non-selfie photos” but boy was I wrong. After taking some time to find the perfect backdrop, Hayden got down one knee and asked me to spend forever with him. I was so surprised in the moment that I hardly remember what he said! What I do remember? Feeling completely in love with him, the ring in that box, and our future together. I said yes, of course!!
We have a slew of pictures documenting the proposal, as Hayden was clicking away while asking me to marry him (quite the multitasker). Following the proposal, we left the museum and stumbled upon a free Italian symphony in the most beautiful church. Then we got some REAL good authentic pizza. A fairytale day!
