How We Met
Tyler and I lived in the same town growing up, attended the same church, and went to middle and high school together. It wasn’t until the end of eighth grade, as we were about to begin high school, that we became close friends. We grew closer through high school – taking classes, singing in the choir, participating in the theatre department’s fall and spring shows, taking long drives around the state that usually ended with a trip to the closest Wawa. Senior year of high school came and we were inseparable and we started dating on December 17, 2012 – which was not a shock to anyone who knew us. We dated through senior year, went off to college together, and have started to navigate “the real world” and I wouldn’t want to have anyone else by my side.
How They Asked
Tyler and I have created annual traditions over the years –
getting Ramen before going out to see the newest movie, driving down the shore to waste an unspeakable amount of money on crane games at the beginning of every summer, attending the county fair as the summer winds down, apple picking at their favorite orchard during the fall, going out for ramen before going out to see the newest movie, and our annual anniversary trip to NYC to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree followed by a food-truck dinner and dessert date in Bryant Park at Christmas time. On December 20, 2019, we planned to go into the city to see the tree. This happened to be one of the coldest nights of December, and of course, the night that I wanted to go sightseeing around the city more than usual.
We took the train into Penn Station, walked to see the Macy’s Christmas window display, followed by a stop at the Saks light show and Frozen window display. Right after, we walked to Rockefeller Center and took our annual tree picture – which turned out to be perfectly Instagrammable. Once the picture was taken, we had to go meet Tyler’s sister in Bryant Park to say hi.
While we were there, Tyler insisted that we take a picture in front of the large Christmas tree, to which I said to his sister “I’m not sure why he wants this picture so bad, we already have one for me to post!” and she laughed. I stood next to Tyler for the picture to be taken when I see him start to unbutton his jacket and I said “Tyler what are you doing!?” because again, it was THE coldest night of the month. He then pulled out a ring box, got down on one knee, and asked “Will you marry me?”, to which I replied “are you serious right now? oh my gosh yes!”
7 years together, forevermore to go!
