How They Asked
Issac contacted me via email about a surprise proposal and engagement photo session for him and his girlfriend of 8 years. Allison dreamed of visiting the Christmas markets in Strasbourg, and when she expressed her desire to see the small French city in the Northeast region of France, he knew that Strasbourg would be the perfect place to ask his partner to share forever with him.
Issac mentioned he’d love to have the engagement proposal in Petite France in Strasbourg – a charming storybook area with cobblestone streets, winding peaceful canals and wooden Alsatian houses lining the small roads.
As the time approached for the surprise Strasbourg proposal in charming Petite France, I advised Issac we schedule our session to be held one hour prior to sunset for that magical golden light. I noticed Allison and Issac walk down the road along the river and as he got down on one knee, I quickly pulled out my camera and we made some magic! A group of passerbyers in Petite France cheered and clapped for them, and we all giddily hugged after they had their moment together.
Luckily, he was able to notice me right away before popping the question (I tend to wear a bright yellow trench coat for proposal sessions to make it easier) and after a little chit chat and laughing after she said yes, we began our stroll around Petite France for their engagement session.
They traveled to France from Hong Kong and as we wandered the canals, stopping every so often while chasing the golden light, we talked about the beautiful mountains and hikes in Hong Kong and what small-town life was like living in Strasbourg as an American expat.
They were so overjoyed and in total love and bliss during their photoshoot, and I’m so glad I was able to capture those natural moments of connection between them.
