How We Met
Allison and I met through mutual friends. My friend on my baseball team at the time invited me to go to his lake cabin one weekend and said his girlfriend was bringing some of her friends. The moment she walked through the front door, I lit up. I was instantly attracted to her. I knew I was because I kept awkwardly glancing up at her to see if we could make eye contact. Later that night, she told me that she was on the “Woman’s Duke Basketball Team” and challenged me to a game of horse. Not knowing how talented she was, she beat me the first game. With my self-esteem on the edge, I ended up beating her two out of three games. After the battle was won, we laughed as her real resume only consisted of high school varsity basketball. The next day, I got her number from my friend and the rest was history. It’s funny how a simple weekend trip with a couple of friends could turn into a life time of happiness with my best friend. That entire summer, we were taking on everything together. From CMA Fest to weekend hiking adventures, my southern belle from the Boro had me hooked. Sadly, distance drew us apart as college rolled around. Managing baseball and school felt like a full time job, so I was very thankful for Allison’s willingness to make the trip up to East Tennessee. I truly believe the struggles of a long distance relationship have brought us closer together. There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ve found someone you want to spend the rest of your life with.
how they asked
A few days before Hunter asked, he told me he wanted to take me on a nice date because we hadn’t been on one in awhile. He said the dinner was in Nashville and to dress nice because the place was a little nicer than my normal norts and t shirt style. So, the day came and no part of me thought anything was going to happen. On my drive there, Hunter called and said that we should walk across the Nashville pedestrian bridge so we don’t have to pay for parking, since the restaurant was right across the bridge. I was not into that- it was hot, I was in jeans with my hair curled and makeup done and I was not about to start sweating. After I told him that I would literally pay for parking so I didn’t have to walk across the bridge, he finally begged me enough that I gave in.When I got to the bridge, I saw that he was dressed really nice, which I thought was strange; but even still, nothing had crossed my mind. When I finally reached him, we started walking across the bridge and I noticed he was super excited and giddy. We walked further down the bridge, Hunter spun me around to face him, and that’s when I knew. I saw that he was tearing up and that’s when I completely became overwhelmed with tears rolling down my cheeks. He told me how much he loved me, that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me; he said many more beautiful things but I was so overwhelmed I don’t really remember everything. He kneeled down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes!
It was the must surreal feeling I have ever felt and there’s no way I will ever be able to put it into words. After he proposed, we hugged and cried some more.
Afterward, he turned me around and that’s when I saw all of my best friends on the bridge and I lost it again. After many pictures, we left to go back to my parent’s home where both of our families were there to surprise us, the day just kept getting better! It still doesn’t seem real- I get to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams and I am so blessed and thankful everyday that he chose me. If you are wondering why he chose to propose at the pedestrian bridge, this was the same exact spot where he had asked me to be his girlfriend a little over two years ago. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
