How We Met
Legend has it, there’s an intangible string of fate that binds two people who are destined to be together. Me, the cynic, never really believed that sort of thing, until I met Andreas. It’s kind of a funny story of how we met. Andreas and I had matched with each other on a popular dating app, but after matching, we didn’t really start any sort of conversation. So I thought that was that maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. Fast forward to three months later, I was sitting at my desk at work, and I heard HR coming around introducing a new hire. They got to my office, I spun around in my chair, and saw Andreas. After that, we started hanging out as friends with our coworkers after work, until a couple of months (and many happy hours) later, Andreas asked me out on a date just the two of us. And we’ve been inseparable ever since. Now, we are engaged, planning our dream wedding, and thankful that life took us back to each other :)
How They Asked
Andreas told me that we would be going to brunch with his parents in Laguna Beach to celebrate his birthday. A proposal was truly the last thing on my mind since I knew this weekend would be all about celebrating him (and rightly so :) ). We got to the restaurant, The Deck on Laguna Beach, right when it opened. As soon as we valeted the car, Andreas said that his parents were taking a walk on the beach in front of the restaurant, and said that we would go and scoop them up before we head back up to brunch.
We walked down the stairs to the beach, and I did a quick glance and didn’t see anybody else on the beach, much less his parents. Then he took my hand and led me down the beach, and we got to this romantic setup on the sand with flowers, pillows, my favorite champagne, and pictures of the two of us together throughout the three years we’d been dating.
Then, he got down on one knee, said the most perfect words, and asked me to marry him. After I said “yes,” I heard cheers erupt up on the balcony of the restaurant, where I saw our families gathered, watching. Truly the most special proposal, and most special day.
