How We Met
My high school sweetheart of 9 years. We were best friends at first. Then it turned into more and I realized I couldn’t live without Nick. We went through our last years of high school together, then college, I moved out of my parents’ house into a house with a roommate and he bought his very first house. We went through every stage together. I knew it was coming but I definitely thought we still had some months to go.
How They Asked
It was one of my best friend’s birthdays. Because of COVID, not much was open, but she had texted me a week prior saying don’t make plans on her birthday, we’re having a girls day. We were going to get our nails done and some friends were going to come over and do our hair and makeup so we could have a photoshoot up in Forest Falls and a bonfire for her birthday. This is something we both would definitely do as we’re girly girls and what else are you supposed to do on your quarantine birthday? Still had no idea. The same week on Monday my nana passed away. It was a very emotional time for my family and me. The girls day on Friday didn’t bring any red flags at all.
Friday rolls around and it’s her birthday. I was so emotionally drained from the days before that I almost bailed on my friend’s birthday, but I didn’t cause I knew she would do it for me. We get our nails done, we have lunch at our favorite spot, and we run into a local store next door to see if we can find something cute for the bonfire. We rush through the store as we needed to get home for our hair, and we are about to leave and I find a creme colored ruffly dress.
One size small left. I try it on and my friend tells me casually, “So cute, get it!” Again, I had no idea I was going to be getting engaged this night. We get our hair and makeup done, I put my outfit on and as soon as I’m all ready I say, “I hope I look like this when I get proposed to”. I was clueless. My boyfriend and I went and grabbed Chipotle really quick before going up to the “bonfire.” When we got there I still didn’t have any idea till he walked me down the rocks into the most perfect setup I could’ve ever imagined. It was one of the happiest moments of my life.
