How We Met
We met in college in 2019. We had an early morning class together, and since I’m not a morning person, I would often miss that class. Hunter got my number from a friend and texted me asking why I hadn’t been in class for a week. The next day, I showed up to class and he didn’t! He told me he’d take me to coffee to make it up to me. We started up a friendship that lasted a couple of months before he really started pursuing me. By November 2019, I was all in and the rest is history!
How They Asked
I had planned a photo shoot to commemorate our 2 year anniversary. We had worked with this photographer before, and since I had planned the shoot, I didn’t think anything of it! I’m pretty difficult to surprise, so I always imagined I would know exactly when Hunter was going to propose. I wasn’t expecting a proposal for another year or so! Little did I know, Hunter had told pretty much the whole world about his plan, and they all somehow managed to keep it a secret. He had been talking to my parents, my best friends, and his parents for months leading up to the proposal. He got in contact with our photographer, planned out the location and the dress (which the photographer used to suggest “her vision” for the photoshoot), and managed to get 40 of our favorite people all in the same place to celebrate afterward. The weekend before, my best friend asked me if I wanted my nails done for the photoshoot.
I jokingly turned to Hunter and said, “Oh are you proposing at our photoshoot next week?” He laughed it off and replied with a simple, “Hah, no.” I never in a million years thought he would actually do it then! It completely went over my head. I found out later he was shaking in his boots when I asked that question! The day of the photoshoot, I was stressing over my outfits, trying on a million different things, and I remember telling Hunter that I “just wanted to get this over with.” We arrived at the beautiful park location and walked down to a grassy area right as the sunlight was peaking through the trees.
We started taking pictures, and the photographer had us stand close to each other with my back to the camera. During this, the photographer handed Hunter the ring box, and he got down on one knee! I don’t remember a single thing he said, I was absolutely shocked and kept repeating “Is this real?” over and over again. After I said yes and somewhat composed myself, we headed over to our second shoot location on a rooftop at sunset to take celebration photos. Later that night, he pulled off the final surprise, which was all of our friends and family at an AirBnB in Newport Beach! We celebrated the whole weekend, and I have never felt so much love and happiness in my life. I’m so thankful for my Hunter, and the people that have supported us since day one!
