how we met
We met in high school when we were 15 through a mutual friend. Shortly after, we were invited to each other’s sweet 16 birthday parties! After a lot of teenage whispers about liking each other, Nick mustered up the courage to ask me to be his homecoming date his sophomore (my junior) year, and the rest is history!
how they asked
I was totally surprised by the proposal! I had always thought he couldn’t surprise me because we know each other so well (after being together for over 7 years that tends to happen!) but he totally pulled it off. Every year around Christmas time, his parents, my parents, and the two of us go out to dinner to celebrate the season. We had this dinner scheduled since about late October or early November (he comes from a family of planners and I come from a family of “let’s fly by the seat of our pants” kind of people) and I didn’t think anything of it because of the tradition! Nick and his dad said that before dinner, they wanted to stop and see the singing Christmas tree light show at Jefferson Pointe so that our grandparents (also in attendance) could see some Christmas lights this year (again, didn’t think anything of it – he’s always that thoughtful)!! Toward the end of the light show, Nick said that he wanted to go out and take a picture of the two of us in front of the tree (again, didn’t think anything of it), so he handed his phone to his mom and we started walking out in front of the line of our families towards the tree, where he stopped halfway and started his speech (this is when I finally caught on) and proposed! I know he started out by saying how many days we’ve been together, but I don’t remember anything after that because I was crying like a baby!!! I said yes (of course, who wouldn’t) and he had to ask for my hand so he could put the ring on because I had both of them on my cheeks with my jaw on the ground, totally in shock! The rest of the night was spent laughing, happy crying, and celebrating with our families. NICK: It happened in early December in front of a Christmas tree in Fort Wayne. It was a surprise. I had always told Alli I would surprise her (she was skeptical, because I don’t/can’t keep secrets from her). I planned with Taylor originally in October and about a week out, we talked again to establish the final details. Both of our families were present, which I thought was really special because it allowed us to share the moment with some of the most important people in our lives, as we both are very family oriented.
