how they asked
The unofficial proposal: Eric was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal at the end of 2015 and spent all of 2016 going through chemo and radiation treatment and had his entire colon removed, leaving him with an ileostomy bag for 7 months until he was able to have it reversed.
At 3am, June 9th, we were awake because Eric had a blockage in his small intestine, causing him incredible pain. The best way to deal with this is to hold hot washcloths on his abdomen to help relax his muscles. It was then, in the wee hours of the morning, that we said aloud for the first time that we knew we were getting married.
The official proposal: New Years morning, 2017. Our 5th anniversary. Every day, we fill out a post-it note detailing our day’s activities and then on New Years we read through them all. This year, there was an extra note, and it was Eric’s proposal. He went and got my great grandmother’s ring from my jewelry box and got down on one knee and proposed.
