How We Met
Tommy and I met in the summer of 2017. Tommy has just moved back to California after graduating from the University of Kentucky. We actually are from the same hometown but we never knew each other. One day I swiped right on his profile on Tinder and it turned out to be a match!
Tommy and I messaged back and forth for about three or four days before he asked me on a date. He gave me a choice: Starbucks or Jamba Juice. I (of course) chose Starbucks and the rest is history! We talked for four hours on our first date, about everything. Our families, our goals for life, we even started playing a “question game” which we still play to this day. Apparently, after our first date, Tommy went to work and told a co-worker how he thought I was the one. Turns out he was right.
How They Asked
According to Tommy, he knew when and how he was going to propose our three-month anniversary. I was a junior at UCLA but I had already begun planning my graduation trip for Europe. Tommy knew that Paris was my favorite city in the world, so when I told him about my plans, he knew he would propose to me then.
As for the ring, I am very (very) picky about everything so I made sure Tommy knew EXACTLY the kind of ring I wanted. I never told him a specific ring, just all of the things I was looking for so that way there was still some surprise about which ring I got. And (spoiler alert) he picked the most beautiful ring.
When we officially decided on the dates for our Europe trip, we made sure to be in Paris for our two year anniversary, which was August 14, 2019. I pretty much knew that he was going to propose then, and I was so sure it would be the 14th. Tommy has other plans.
On August 13, we had a whole romantic night planned. It started with dinner at a Paris’ famous steak fries restaurant. I had introduced it to Tommy in Los Angeles so we knew we had to go to the original restaurant. After dinner, we had tickets to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We took the elevator (and some stairs) all the way to the top and it just takes your breath away. He spun me around, kissed me, and next thing I knew, he was on one knee. I honestly blacked out at that moment but I knew enough to say yes. Later that night I surprised Tommy with his own engagement ring. It was the best night of our lives.
