How We Met
Alizen and I met in 2012 on the 3rd floor library at the University of Houston. A love at first site moment, Imade the first move. But a few days later, I was also the first to ghost him. Fast forward many years ahead, we finally made our way back to annoy and love, but to mainly annoy each other. When we
are together, they enjoy coffee therapy sessions in the car, eating unreasonable amounts of food, and spending time doing nothing at all!
How They Asked
In October of 2021, a brand reached out to me with an exciting opportunity to collab with them. Just as normal as any marketing opportunity, I agreed to work with them and had a successful collaboration. They said they would reach out to me again with an even bigger opportunity in a few months. Knowing that brands often say that to creators, I said to myself “yeah right!”
Meanwhile, I was rounding up my last few collaborations for the year and decided to write down my end-of-year goals. Not knowing what was coming my way, I wrote “before the year ends, will get an opportunity to work on something big and exciting”.
Roughly two months later, they reached out as they promised. This time with an even BIGGER collab! They wanted to sign me as an ambassador for their brand awareness program.
The expo consisted of two parts: a photo shoot for their spring/summer collection and a formal event to celebrate their launch in the US.
Let’s fast forward to 1.27.2022, the day of the photoshoot! I am feeling all types of ways: nervous, excited, and overwhelmed because this is such a HUGE opportunity! A brand flew me out to California as a freakin’ ambassador AND they were paying me big money for it? I just couldn’t believe it!
We arrived at the location where the event coordinator greeted us and signed us in. He gave us more details about the events for the day and then directed us to the set.
The shoot was happening at Soberanes Point Trail and it was about a 2-ish min walk up a hill. As we were walking to the “set”, I was getting more and more excited to meet the other ambassadors and the social media team. Then as we got close, I began noticing the ground was covered in rose petals. It took me a few moments to realize what was about to happen!
My heart dropped and I immediately STOPPED.
I said “Oh my god, what?! Are you proposing?! What about the expo?!!!” He threw his head back, laughed, and said “no expo but there is a proposal”
Thank you, God, for blessing me with the best collaboration of my life – AP X AD
