How We Met

Angelo and I have been together for seven years – I laid eyes on him on my first day of college and sat next to him for nearly two months before I worked up the courage to talk to him. I consider myself very outgoing, however, I had never been as attracted to anyone as I was to him, so I was always nervous to initiate a conversation. Looking back on it, if someone would have told me that the painfully handsome guy in my class would someday ask me to be his wife, I would have told them they were absolutely insane. But, as fate would have it, we ended up as partners for a class project and have been together ever since.

We have always been infatuated with nature and autumn, so we planned a trip to Lake Placid in the Adirondacks during “peak foliage” time.

We traveled there last year and had a wonderful time, so we decided to go back. We stayed at a gorgeous Airbnb in the middle of the woods – we were very secluded and had a lot of peace and quiet to enjoy our time together.

The second day we were there, he drove us to the top of Whiteface Mountain (4,500 ft. above sea level – needless to say I had to get over my fear of heights quickly).

As we were taking pictures with each other and of the breathtaking view, it all of a sudden became really quiet (as did he) and everyone had cleared off the mountain.

I was looking around when I heard him reach into his pocket and say – “do you know that I love you more than anything in the world?” I then realized what was happening and started crying immediately as he got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. After I said “YES,” he asked if he could put the ring on my finger. I haven’t been able to stop staring at my ring since and we will always have that memory of getting engaged on top of a mountain during our favorite season.

When we got back to our Airbnb, he said “I forgot one more thing…” and told me to close my eyes and hold out my hands. He then gave me a ring dish that said “Owl always love you,” knowing that I have a serious obsession with owls. Needless to say it was the cherry on top to our perfect Autumn Lake Placid Mountain proposal.
