How We Met
I had been backpacking for 6 months, and when I returned, all of my friends were in relationships. I decided to try some dating websites, and after a few terrible dates, really narrowed down my search criteria, 4 profiles matched, and Michael was one of them. We started chatting and hit it off right away. Our first date was ten pin bowling.
We were getting along great so we decided to have a drink together after, then dinner (where we got kicked out of the restaurant because they were closing, we’d been talking for so long), then to coffee and dessert (where again we stayed until they closed!). I got home at 1am on that Tuesday night, and the rest is history. Not long after that, I told Michael that if he wanted to spend time with me, he would have to learn to scuba dive…
how they asked
We were holidaying in Bali with our friends who were on their honeymoon. Bali is also where we went on our first holiday together. We’d been scuba diving everyday, but on our last day, we had a dive we will remember for the rest of our lives. It was a night dive on the USS Liberty shipwreck. I’d done this dive site a number of times before, and it’s one of my favourite dives to do in Bali. We descended shortly after sunset, and had an amazing dive, seeing all kinds of tropical fish, bright corals and sea life.
We were getting to the end of the dive, when Michael bumped into me, I turned around to see if anything was wrong. Michael opened his hand to show me something, and there was a ring! Sparkling so much under his torch light! I was so excited I had to hold my regulator in my mouth so it wouldn’t fall out.
I nodded my head yes, and he slipped the ring onto my finger. We came up to the surface together to a sky full of stars, and a lot of excitement from our friends. It was the absolutely perfect proposal for us, doing our favourite hobby and in our favourite place on earth.
